** EARLY BIRD CATCHES THE WORM: CYBER MONDAY 8 PACK ELITE TIER FORUM ONLY DEAL!! **

I'm trying to get my old head around the Asetek installation, thanks to the amazing instruction-less supply. ;)

Try looking at http://www.asetek.com/media/1797/asetek-installation-web.pdf

So I add a washer to each of the 8 long screws, pass that through the slots in the roof of my new Luxe, through the fans and then screw them into the radiator?
That's the equivalent of how I did it on my older Coolermaster case. You can fit the fans to the underside of the radiator (long screws), then the short screws with washer from the outside of the case into the top of the radiator. Different schools of thought as to which is more effective, but looking at the accumulated dust I couldn't see on my old cooler where I had fans underneath for the last four years, by having the fans now on top of the rad I'll know if I need to clean it .....

Make sure you check you are pointing the fans the right way - I set mine to exhaust from the case.

Is the pre-applied thermal compound on the Asetek much worse than the Thermal Grizzly?
I assembled my stuff to see how it fitted, then cleaned and used the thermal grizzly. I'm sure if it wasn't effective it wouldn't have been part of the supplied bundle.

As mentioned by someone earlier, it looks extremely tight as regards the radiator fan cables reaching the PWM controller, with the radiator installed at the top of the Luxe.
By ensuring the fan cable exited the fan housing nearest to the PWM board I found both would reach the top 2 connectors. I moved one of the case fans to another spare socket to do this. I have the fans on top too, sucking air through the rad and exhausting out the top. Not really sure if that's the best arrangement but with all 12 threads going flat out looking for spacey science stuff I'm running temps of around 39 deg C. Still on stock frequency, the fun of trying to overclock it will come tonight or tomorrow as I wanted to ensure it was all stable before hand.

The SSD is the 512GB version and are you sure you have not overlooked it? It is tiny, the bubblewrapped SSD is roughly the size of an adult middle finger. ;)

I looked and looked and got all the bubble wrap back out the bin thinking it was stuck to something else. I had ordered a 128GB unit to serve as a boot drive in the M.2 slot. I'm mounting the 512GB unit on an adapter card for games mainly.

Very quickly after reporting back to the sales guys they confirmed it hadn't been packed.

Yeah I knew they were small but I was still surprised when I unwrapped the 512GB stick!

Just done similar before seeing your reply, I moved the two pre-installed case connectors on the top two PWM sockets to the corresponding ones on the lower side, then hooked up the radiator fans to those upper PWM sockets.

I've now got the radiator fans connected to the radiator using the long screws and washers, while the radiator is loosely screwed to the case slots using four of the small screws, with the radiator tube exits at the front of the case (to take up most of the slack).

Getting very tempted to see what the pre-applied thermal compound on the cooler is like, just because it is a couple of steps less of things to do, even if it just a short term thing!

Feeling quite spaced out with this head cold, but I just want to get this new rig running ASAP, this all seems so alien after almost 8 years of not assembling a PC.

My Q9300 is giving me more than gentle encouragement to get the new rig running, if I look at it in the wrong tone of voice it plays up! The 400 FSB overclock is suddenly a no-go, my MX100 looks to be corrupted and I'm having to run the Q9300 @ stock with a 1:1 divider on the DDR3 that was previously happy at 1600MHz. :(

My order is still being processed :(

They must have under-estimated the black friday demand, and run out of Haribo.

Should the CPU Cooler pump be connected to CPU fan with the fans (I have the basic Phanteks PWM Fan Hub) be connected to CPU OPT (water cooling fan header), or vice-versa?

Right with you there - I've been putting it off as I'm busy working; which gives me time to read up on it all.

Looks like a clean install of win10 will be the easiest - wanted to install win 7.
How are people getting on with win 10?
Is it a fast sleek OS or bloated spyware?

Good luck to everyone with their builds.

ps. Has anyone tried putting this in a Fractal R5?

Win 10 seems to be a bit like Marmite. I know plenty of people who love it, but there are others who hate it with a passion!

It seems that if you're used to 7 and like 7, then 10 isn't as good, but it is better than Win 8/8.1

Win 7 is a PITA to install on an NVMe drive, so I forked out the money on a fresh Win 8.1 disk. That way I can upgrade to 10 at my leisure.

hi guys
loving my pc so far :) however I do have a quick question I forgot to ask. on the motherboard there is an external Pcie power socket, which is apparently for when doing SLI. Now I am hoping this is not needed if you only want to do 2 way sli (which is my plan next year). if it is needed then someone at gigabyte must have been having a moment when designing the mobo, because how on earth can you plug anything in as the psu gets in the way.

has anyone else come accross this? and if so was it an error, and if so how did you plug in?

thanks

Sorry to bump my own post but has anyone run sli on this board and did they have to use that power plug?

Taa

yeah I've got all drivers installed, from gigabyte website, bios updated. eeverything can you guys post scores of your AS SSD bench mark and crystal mark etc.... my drive maybe faulty

Finished the set up last night but found I could only boot with a single RAM stick installed. Tried all four and can boot up fine with them all individually but not when I try to run two or more sticks.

BIOS settings look fine and I've tried the auto settings from the profile as well as manually entering the timings. RAM is going into the correct channels. Will have a closer look tonight as I've not had a chance to update the BIOS. Is this the likely cause or is it possible I have a dodgy mobo here? There is no visible damage.

I think the board is quite picky as to which RAM sockets are populated. With 4 sticks according to the manual you should be using all four slightly lighter coloured slots.

At the moment I'm running everything, CPU, RAM, etc using the default profile the BIOS sets, so you shouldn't need to manually set anything to get it to initially boot up. Overclocking is the experiment for the weekend.

Yup, those were the ones I was using. I'll need to try running mem tests on each stick I think.

Also annoyingly the fresh install of windows 10 doesn't have the network adapter driver to download the rest of the missing drivers. Hopefully I finish work at a reasonable hour tonight and can have a proper look at getting it all up and running.
