That's utter rot.

The early versions of vBB were buggy with "large" databases. The forums limped along for over 6 months on the sick database and from memory there was frequent downtime when it fell over. There were a number of problems, and the fact the forums are here eleven years later after the big nuke shows it was the correct decision.

That said vBB at the time was light years ahead of the original HTML forums... :eek:
 
I used to get suspended for random images and sigs that were 1KB or 1pixel over the limit.

How grumpy is that!

I was here before the nuke, probably as far back as 1999 or 2000. Went from a normal member, to Man of Honour -> UB -> Don -> Normal -> Suspended -> Perma'd -> Normal -> MoH -> Don. Been an interesting 14 years or so :D

I think I remember you as Ridcully. I was also on the SETI team.
 
Originally joined before the DB wipe in 2002, some time in 1999 I'd guess, but took some time to re-register after that, so 3rd Jun 2003 is my current join date.

With all the people who were already here pre-2002 it kind of spoils the whole point of the thread.

Posted most since. Think I've been tried to be 'got rid of' several times, but it's not that easy. Especially now I have the keys!
 
I may have joined 2006 but i lurked for ages before, i think i started visiting regularly since 2002. I only joined in 2006 because the other main forum i visit went to crap because the people there are awful specimens of the human race. Drove all the nice people out of the forum due to there abuse and now it's a bit of a wasteland with only a dozen regular posters that abuse anyone else that dares to have an opinion

Mine was rather simple. I was suspended for a rule break I wasn't aware of (competitors were being banned in the console forum but no mention had been made public from the mods at the time), then I stupidly mouthed off on another forum, having a minor meltdown and said some nasty things about someone here. I was rightly perma'd for it. I apologised later on when I'd cooled down, and after a few months Spie invited me back (along with several other previously banned forum members).

I was a 2 minute walk away when the shop was in Fenton and now i work just up the road on the A34. Makes life easy to pick stuff up.
 
I joined before the nuke.. I didn't bother rejoining for a year or so after I recall.

Some familiar old and new faces still around but some memorable ones have come and gone in the meantime sadly.
