Earplugs - do I need to bother?

your losing part of the thrill of riding though with earplugs,it just cuts most of the bikes noise out

I find the exact opposite happens. When the earplugs tune out most of the superfluous and annoying wind noise etc I can then hear more clearly what the bike is doing, sound wise and engine noise wise. ;)

Always worn then, whether it's either my headphones with some choons, or proper plugs... never ever go out without them. You only get one set of ears, why take the chance?

I started wearing them a couple of years ago, mainly for long trips. Now I wear them all the time. I certainly feel less fatigued when I reach my destination.

I still get some ringing after long journeys with the big yellow 40db killer ones :( 400 miles yesterday and impared hearing for an hour, not much fun

Yep, wear them. And if they're falling out mid ride you're not inserting them properly. The only time I don't use them is if I'm nipping to the shops just down the road, and even then the wind noise at 30mph is horrible.

Moldex spark plugs get my approval, £3 for 20 pairs, each pair lasts about a week.

Make sure you insert properly. Technique I use is

1). Roll them so they're thinner.
2). If inserting the left one, reach over and grab top of ear with right hand and pull up.
3). Insert plug with left hand into left ear.
4). Once in, keep your finger on top of the plug until you can feel it expanding filling the ear.

REPEAT for right ear. Sounds silly explaining this, however the amount of people that insert plug wrong and DO NOT do this meaning

a). Plugs fall out
b). They're not stopping half the sound and noise

Do this with decent plugs and you'll literally hear nowt when standing still. Once moving it cuts out all the wind noise and tinny sound of the bike, but you get all the road of exhausts and the man sound of the bike.

my advise would be wear them if you want to but its not essential, hasn't affected my hearing at all,i would advise on a neck tube though, much warmer and less drafty under the helmet

EDIT: they can be annoying aswell when one pops out as your riding on a busy road

when your old and decrepit you can always get a hearing aid :D

it doesn't I can hear my bike just fine and if they come out while the helmets on then you put them in wrong.

haha whatever you wanna do

personally i don't bother,am i deaf? no

and they still worm there way out sometimes even if you put them in properly

I guess it's one of those better safe than sorry things.

I packed some for my three month euro-tour last year but barely used them, through both forgetfulness and wanting to hear music through my Sena bluetooth wotsit.

I don't think it's done me any harm, but that said I can't hear a %£$%ing thing you lot are saying :p
