Good evening,

I recently became aware of how vulnerable my mass of family photos/videos are.

Is there such a thing, as an external hard drive with built-in riad redundancy / protections? If so, any recommendations?

I don't much feel like building something myself and I don't particularly want to build it into my PC either.

Many thanks

Do you mean password encrypted drives or raid mirror so you have a back up copy, how much storage do you need.

Ideally you should be backing up to the cloud also .

You could look at the WD My Book Duo which, as the name suggests, has two HDDs that you can configure as RAID 1.
Alternatively, a low-end two-bay NAS such as the Asustor Drivestor 2 Lite with your choice of two HDDs is a more flexible option as it sits on your LAN so is accessible from anything else on the LAN.

The My Book Duo is the sort of thing I'm looking for, but even the cheapest option is a bit hardcore for what I'm after. At that price point I think I'd be better off with your Asustor suggestion which I'll look into it a bit more, many thanks.

@mickyflinn I'm less concerned with security, it's more about redundancy protection for me. Cloud is possible but I have no appetite for yet another subscription.

A pair of portable hard drives? It's where all my back ups are stored, one in the flat in case of hardware failure with my PC and one at my friends house in case of fire or theft.

Encrypted with bitlocker, backed up using Freefilesync.
