Easy to use backup program?

I'm looking for a backup program which I can use to backup selected dirs into a nice neat file. I'll then copy that file to other drives. I'd ideally like a program I could simply run everytime I decide to backup stuff I've selected.

Does something like this exist? I know nothing about this area so something really easy to use would be preferable.

Just an update to my previous post. Free File Sync has had an update today to 3.2 and now supports using the Volume Shadow Copy on Windows 64bit

I've looked at the programs suggested but they all seem to involve setting up a sync folder and then continuingly updating it. Is that right?

Basically what I want is a program that will create a folder or compressed file with directories and folders I've designated. That's all I want. I'll then copy that file to my backup hds. As I go I'll delete old backups as and when I need to.

Is there a program that just does this?

There are tons of backup programs (free and otherwise) that will do this, it's just a case of choosing the right options when you create the backup job.

FWIW I like GFI Backup Home Edition.
