Eating out - for just a few mouthfuls

My mum worked at a university library. Often saw many bottles of water and other soft drinks about (were only allowed water in computers and books areas, other drinks allowed in group study areas) with just a couple of swigs taken. What a waste of money esp with soft drinks £1.50. Then students have the cheek to say that they are skint!

I’m not angry in the slightest. I’m not sure why you keep repeating things that I’ve already told you I agree with. Are you the one who’s angered?

Going back to principles. Saying thank you and please to people doesn’t change anything, but I still say them anyway. I could happily throw litter on the floor and cite India and China, but I don’t.
Calling people stupid for drinking bottled water is a poor articulation of whatever point you think you made so I presumed you were angry at the state of things. No need to get your back up, I was using it as an insult.

You don’t think it’s stupid to open new bottles water every day, at home... the stuff literally comes out the tap... I don’t think they even do that in countries where the water is of poor quality.

In some parts of France the tap water is disgusting. Have stayed in one area and have relatives living in another. Buy 12x2 litres of water for about £1.

My back isn’t up at all, I’m not sure what makes you think it is. I think it is stupid to drink water from plastic bottles at home when we generally get good water from the tap. I’ll leave it at that.

some EU countries have crazy amounts of calcium in the water compared to "hard water" in the UK
Switzerland was crazy I bet chalk sticks build up in the pipes and block them over time if you just ignore it

Probably something wrong with him (no offence). The only reason I'd not finish my meal is that I don't like it. Otherwise, the bigger portion the better.

I am slightly portly.

What a very strange thing to say.

I can assure you there is nothing "wrong with me".

I just don't want to stuff myself full of a 3000kcal meal which is totally unnecessary

surely the issue isn't paying and not using, but unnecessary waste/spend. So a gym membership is unnecessary as you can run outside, use body weight, buy a set of weights and have them at home etc?
As above - A massive meal that you're not going to eat anyway is unnecessary waste/spend, just as is serving massive portions that your customers generally will not be able to finish.

if you try to live a world with no wasted food, you end up creating a situation where people don't want to eat out. it's also better to waste food, then over eat food and then be overweight, need to spend to now go gym etc.
Depends what you do with the existing food refuse as to whether it is waste or just reuse. Round here we have separate food waste bins, the contents of which go to fertiliser for farming and energy production. Even your poo gets used for this, which further reduces wastage and pollution... but this is mostly just domestic properties, while commercial food production premises usually have to voluntarily engage a third party collection service, which often isn't free, either.

However, proponents of things like portion control would argue that you shouldn't be overeating in the first place, which goes back again to not ordering the massive meal that will only get wasted. It won't stop you eating out, but will really help reduce wastage.

Personally, not noticed it much, these places which serve gut-buster portions, I would love to know where these are! I love going to America and having a decent Steak, Burger etc. A local steak house opened and looking at the menu, the prices are comical for an 8 oz, I would want a Porterhouse.

Normally if I am eating out, I tend to reign in what I eat during the day, so you enjoy your meal. If I go for a belly buster at the local greasy spoon, will I have lunch, dinner etc, err no! Dinner will be something light etc.

Same as on holiday.

What people spend or do with their money, it is up to them.
