Eating out in Edinburgh

There is a new south african braai place open on Morrison Street which has incredible food - fairly sure its called shebeeb.

Wedgwood's. Towards the bottom of the royal mile. Reasonably priced, very relaxed and friendly atmosphere and the food is right up there with the best in Edinburgh. You won't be disappointed.

I bought vouchers for the kitchin as a wedding present for my brother and his wife. I'm almost certain that weekends book out 6 months in advance.

Me and the Mrs ate in a lovely little place called the cellar door. Only small but had one of the best chateauxbriand's.

I was very underwhelmed at The Witchery. The food was very good, not outstanding though but my god the place was tatty inside.

Seats were worn, curtains faded, toilets beyond basic and the place just looked like it needed a lick of paint and a clean all around. Wouldn't go back in a rush at all.

Leith has some epic restaurants....

Jamie Oliver has an Italian restaurant in George Street at prices I thought were very reasonable.

I also have to agree with Mr "Youstolemyname" and his views on The Witchery - I wasn't impressed at all given the prices they charge!

You never gave any budget OP - so at the other end of the scale you've got The Slug and Lettuce in the Omni Centre (next door to the Playhouse) which will give you a fantastic pub lunch for a very reasonable price. :)

Just to throw my hat into the Michelin star argument. I've eaten at Number 1 & The Kitchin. The Kitchin was better food, but I felt that Number 1 was that bit more special. Both are fabulous though.
