Ok I sold a laptop to some one for £275 on ebay, he has feedback of (7) he sends the paypal money from a ‘Armani GB’ with an unconfirmed address and a hotmail email address of ‘agerald_wigidius’ further more his ‘postal name’ that is attached to his address is ‘Jotham Adams’

I questioned this varable names and his response was, Jotham "Armani" Gerald Adams

I have some concerns with this, he has poor English and low feedback, and there seems like little mismatches all over the place, it might be me being paranoid, but I have a bad feeling about this, clearly I have to send the laptop and the money has been in my account since Friday. But if it’s fraud paypal can pull the money out upto 90 days can’t they ? cos that happened to me before, any advice chaps?

If he has positive feedback I'd be fine with sending it. My e-mail is on my gf's paypal account and people never have problems.

That said I like to think I speak / type better than your average scammer.

Get in touch with Paypal, query the payment. Email the multi-named wonder, and tell them Paypals looking into the payment for suspicious activity...

I've had to do this before, turned out to be legit in the end, but worth my peace of mind.

Hmm be very cautious, this has all the makings of a classic scam. Its not like you get a second chance, if you are suspicious then pull out of the deal. Might save you £275 and your laptop.

Edit: Does the address correspond to a true residential address? Maybe look it up and see if you can get a contact number to ask if this guy is a resident there.

It's an unconfirmed address with paypal, if you send the laptop out you wont be covered - Stear clear, or ask for postal orders

my problem now is, i have the paypal money, PAYPAL sucks! why can't they say you can use it unless you have a confirmed addy.... why have this limbo state, where for 90 days i could be made overdrawn at anytime!

Wouldnt dream of sending it. next tiem I come to sell high values good again I'll be stating in very very big letters "Confirmed UK addresses only". You arent covered, and you have doubts, trust your instincts - it would be madness to send it.

Contact the buyer and get them to either confirm their address or pay via bank deposit, it will delay the process slightly but if they are genuine they should be ok with it. If not refund.

If you transfer the money from your paypal account to your bank account they cant withdraw it can they?. I was ripped off by £10 from a power seller, when i tried to reclaim my money from paypal i got an email saying the guy doesn't have any funds in his account to pay me back  .

A few things look a bit dodgy...and in most cases, if something looks dodgy, it is. Try and contact paypal and see if they can help.

If you withdraw the money and then someone does a chargeback, the amount is frozen in your Paypal account and becomes a negative balance (Assuming you have no other money in there).

Paypal then chase you for the money through debt collection agencies I believe if you do not resolve the balance of your account.

Quite simply, you arent covered for this transaction. If its not legitimate, you are waving goodbye to £250.

Wouldn't do it, the items he has bought recently are for less than £10.

they were all mercedes car stuff, nothing dodgy about it

buying lots of cheap items is usually a way to boost feedback

(edit: thought he had bought 4 for the same car... but he hasnt)

This with an unconfirmed address and names that dont match screams out scam, well to me it does.
