I bided on a item and won then realised i should really want it sending signed for rather than standard first class. I've sent the seller 2 messages since the auction finished but have had no replies, he has a feedback of around 62 positive but i'm thinking surely he would have checked who won the auction etc etc and the inability to at least reply to my message gives me zero confidence the item would actually turn up or if there is a problem it would be resolved amicably.

Should i just pay the guy or send him a message saying i refuse to make payment until he responds to my request?

Pay, if it doesn't turn up, turn in a dispute through paypal.

Where would a dispute stand tho if it was sent first class standard, surely would he have to provide a receipt for proof of postage, also could i use my messages to him as proof to paypal that i thought the guy might not send the item???

Just hoping i've not run into one of these people hoping to make a quick buck before christmas then make a new account next year

this

it's up to him to make sure it gets to you and there's proof of it

One of the reasons when selling on ebay i always only offer signed for post or special delivery. that way i have my proof i sent it and then proof it gets there and if not i can claim my cash back from Royal mail

as a buyer you're pretty secure, paypal really has the sellers by the balls.

A sa general rule I would only insist on paying extra for recorded if the items are above £50 or so, but your limit might be different. There's really no excuse for not sending items recorded it's only 70p or something extra.

Cost of selling online is high, ebay fees and paypal fees are pretty sizeable, add RM fees and you have a very small slice of the cake left for yourself, generally you take a smaller cut than ebay do [combined ebay and paypal fees] with consumer electronics.

Still not heard anything from the seller, Shall i just pay the guy tomorrow afternoon and see what happens. Can sellers leave negative feedback for the buyer?

I would only start worrying about it if the item doesn't turn up. It's very likely to take a little longer than usual at this time of year so bear that in mind.

Yeah tell me about it ordered 4 dvd's from play , 2 turned up wednesday , 1 turned up saturday , god knows when the other will turn up . Funnily though all 4 dispatch emails were sent within half hour lol

Nothing unusual with them. I'm still waiting for 9 packages sent at various times last week to arrive and all were sent by 1st class or 1st class recorded. You just have to see the queues in the post office and you realise why!! Some of my relatives work at a RM sorting office and they tell me it's a lot more hectic this year than previous years.

As a seller, i can say without a doubt that you can receive the item, take photos of it and post it on the internet along with pics of the sellers packaging etc.. and paypal will still side with you :D

I thought eBay required items to be sent using a method that can be tracked so if it doesn't turn up then you would be the winner as the sender wouldn't be able to provide a tracking number (proof of posting doesn't mean jack to these guys as it doesn't allow tracking of the item).

unusual, i remember before it was hell sending stuff during christmas, 1st class could take up to 7 days to receive.

this year im getting a lot of stuff surprisingly quick. I posted a used mobo saturday morning, from london to somewhere up north, and the buyer emailed me back monday lunchtime saying he's received it. Great stuff.

My items aren't arriving in chronological order and also the same for the few items I've been posting to people. For example, one item I posted last Monday via 1st class recorded hasn't been delivered yet but something I posted on Friday using the same method was delivered on Saturday morning.

You could still claim if you had proof of postage can't you? (Sending without recorded or special)
I suppose paypal don't care about that but if the item is under the amount you could claim it still makes sense to send it via that method.

well i gave up waiting for a response so requested the item be cancelled as he said he could ship before xmas

Dear***********

Hereby giving a formal request to cancel the sale of ***********************.

Despite numerous attempts i have been unable to contact you regarding shipping and payment for the above item. As such since you have had no activity since the sale date i am led to believe the authenticity of the sale or your integrity to despatch within the required time limit you provided. Hence my reason i have not made payment to this date.

Please invoice me for any fees you incurred from the listing of the item and a relevant paypal address and i will forward the fee's fund back onto you so you can re-list it for free.

Kindest regards bigjimmyauk
