Ebay collection in person?

what was the end of the story ?

Did you get a QR code and buy one chair cash on collection, and, also, payed privately for the other 3.
He didn't really know what he was doing with the ebay/QR part either so he cancelled the offer/acceptance his side (I confirmed). We negotiated the price for 4, paid cash, and walked out with them. It was all fine, he was there in a shut-down restaurant dealing with a fair amount of people like it was a shop. I only asked because I didn't quite know what the deal was before I turned up. All good.

are these dining chairs to be used a pc chair like a certain millionaire streamer has been doing for over a month?
No idea what you're in about. But they were Emeco Navy 111 (Coke) chairs if you're interested. Worth traipsing across London for at that price.

OK good to know - ebay must become a bit suspicious if he did that for many purchasers
I have a cash on collection this weekend so what you describe is a clean way out.

I don't want to pay until I've seen them. Happy to pay cash, bank transfer or Paypal whatever after that.

This isn't how eBay works, you've offered a price and this has been accepted by the seller, If eBay are to be believed you are now in a "legally binding contract" to purchase the item.
You should've asked for more pics instead of offering a price to the seller. in all honesty.

This is why so many cars end up posted repeatedly, people make offer they get accepted then they just don't turn up or are simply tyre kickers.
Its not Buy It After Ive looked at it (Buy it Now) or Chance offer if I like the look of them (Best Offer)

lol and then real world enters the thread

If you go see the item and subjectively it doesn't meet your expectation what else can you do - the system needs to have provision for that,
especially if you turn up test drive the car & the dampers/suspension are nacked.

The part whereby the eBay T+C's mean absolutely nothing and eBay are a power unto themselves ? :p
Yep it's why I don't use eBay any more lol
I would've asked for more pics tho if I wasnt sure before going making offers.

If an item is sold as seen and described truthfully then nothing like that should be a surprise.
But again thats down to eBay seller being truthfull....

reviving again ....

Have they modified time-out on login for ebay bidding ... the frustration of - about to make a last minute bid and you find the dam system has logged you out, and it's too late baby.

Collected in person on eBay a few times. Purchased a CRT monitor, where you know if it were to be posted its 70/30 it will be destroyed.

Usually pay by PayPal and then message the seller to arrange collection? Never had a problem. Only one seller messed me about, stalled giving me their address following payment. Got a refund in the end after a few exchanges, they sold the item and then wanted more money, so it was a case of jog on. I have sold loads of items, profited on some and lost on others, its the way auctions work but some people fail to grasp.

If you turn up and the item is nothing like the pictures, I would walk away and dispute via PayPal.

Paying cash, it depends on the amount you are comfortable to gamble if the item is knackered as trying to get the money back (same with a bank transfer) would be a nightmare and you are relying on the integrity of the individual. If someone asks to pay outside of eBay, walk away.

done over for the cost of 4 chairs? when you are collecting from their address (i assume not meeting in a car park)... for an item like a chair (thats not really going to go faulty) i would have 0 reservations about collecting with cash... I have purchased 100's and sold 100's of items on ebay... collected loads of items with cash (some times 100s of £) i see no issues with this transaction.. unless they are antique £1500 chairs being collected from a car park....

may be a silly question but very relevant in my eyes.. if you do cash on collection and say for example, the item/s are worth £2k.. do you inspect the cash (not just counting), but go further and use black light to make sure they are not fake... or do you think counting is sufficient?

I've just started posting stuff on ebay to sell, but whilst i advertised as cash on collection, wasn't sure if bank transfer was allowed (as there were no options for it other than cash on colelction or delivery)

I always take a UV light with me whenever I'm selling stuff in person and cash is involved. Why wouldn't you?

True.. guess with me it's been a long while since i've handled large wads of cash.. especially when bank transfer and paypal are mainstream.. almost forgotten what a bank note looks like ha

looks like the problems are related to below cookie msg, which I see regularly
- ebay have some technical problem with cookies , and that seems to cause undesired logout, will try solution it suggests
There may be a workaround though: next time you get the accept/decline pop-up rather than either ignoring it or clicking 'Accept', click on the 'Manage preferences / decline' option then page down to the end and click 'Continue'. I've just tried that, then closed my eBay session, checked the cricket score and a few news sites then went back to eBay. No pop-up. I can't guarantee it's a solution but it's worth a go, and quicker than waiting for eBay to try and fix it.

KEEP GETTING "ACCEPT/DECLINE" BLUE COOKIE POP-UP - VERY ANNOYING

i'm new to selling on ebay.. but wondered if you sold an item on ebay to be collected in person and paid in cash. Do ebay still charge you a final fee if the item gets sold? even if you have selected cash on colelction rather than ebays managed payments?
