does not compute - WHY would you not pay for insurance!:rolleyes:

To save a buck

Looks like you are in luck,

"All consignments are covered free of charge for loss or damage for up to a maximum of £50 per consignment (not per box)."

I'm sure it will be classed as lost, so you get £50 back....

unless you paid for insurance

£100 £5 (min)
£200 £5 (min)
£400 £8
£600 £12
£800 £16
£1000 £20
£2000 £40

Laptop worth's £850.

It depends how DPD legally defines something as "lost" in their T&C's. In this case it was not lost, it was the drivers incompetence or driver nicked it. Suppose the latter is true, could you still say it could be defined as "lost"?

I don't have a clue,

usually Big Corp V Little guy = u screwed!!!!

DPDs cover isn't hugely relevant - it was booked through P2G so would fall under their liability.

They did confirm to me that it reached the correct place though.

Of course they confirmed it. But it still doesn't mean it was. I have had similar discussions when ordering online and it goes to a similarly named address near me. Luckily I just tell the sender to show me proof of it reaching me (my signature which they will not have) and get a refund.

Good luck but it's likely you are out of pocket here.

Good luck trying to claim in the small claims court, if it turns out to be lost. I've been there and done that. A few years ago I posted a laptop from my UK home to my Paris home via a parcel broker.
Parcel got as far as the Paris courier depot then duly vanished. Took the broker to small claims and lost. The broker were found to not be liable, you could try claiming against courier but my Judge said that could be difficult as I didn't directly employ them, the broker did.

Ok just for anyone else's benefit - don't sell anything expensive through ebay. Even fully protected things can go wrong and when they do - you are going to lose your item. As long as that's understood. Many people will never have a problem but until ebay move towards the seller when it comes to problems a number of buyers know this and test the system by claiming items don't arrive etc

The last few deliveries I've had from DPD if you check the tracking it shows a GPS marker for the delivery address, a picture of some part of the house and if it was left in a safe place then a picture of the card and the item in place.

I didn't pay for insurance though. On the other hand the item wasn't lost in transit or damaged. DPD screwed up most likely.

Well that was a huge mistake, lessen learnt I hope.

You may still be able to claim something from DPD as they should have got a signature, they should never leave it in a safe place if a signature is required.

Go round to the address it was sent to, barge your way, pick up you laptop and hit them with it.

You joke, but if I was obviously scammed out of 850 quid, it would be well worth the fuel / potential overnight cost to stay somewhere to confront the little sod who did it.

hopefully op will get this sorted though.

The seller is fairly well protected so long as they cover themselves, insurance with signature/proof of purchase is a must.

Making note of serial numbers with a few images is generally a good idea in case they try a switcheroo return.

I often sell items up-to £800 in value and have no issues at all.

Who's to say it has anything to do with the buyer though?

Get the proof of delivery from the courier and give it to Ebay. Ebay will then find in your favour.

Unless the courier ****ed it up. In which case you have to speak with them about it and, if necessary, make use of the insurance cover. Which you, unfortunately, didn't buy
(a bit silly on a £850 item - I regularly take the minimal cover on low-value items, because it's no big deal if they go wrong, but wouldn't on something that would upset me if it got lost)

|Call DPD. Ask for them to email you proof of delivery for ebay purposes. They should help.

Also "lost" isnt always the case.

for example, i sent something via Myhermes and it was then "lost".

turns out the driver left his car running and delivered some items, someone nicked his car and in turn all the parcels.

I got them to refund me + compensations of the items value due to Driver Negligence.

they tried to say it was "lost", but i argued with them.

i didnt buy any insureance

Ouch.

No way I'd send something over 200 quid without insurance...you need to chase up with DPD why there is no signature... because usually royal mail for example, you can view a copy of the signature online.

Does the buyer have good feedback OP? because I remember someone once sent me a graphics card and it wasn't signed for or anything and I thought "Jeeze this guy is brave I could easily scam him..." obviously i'm not a douche bag, but you never know if the buyer could be trying to pull a fast one.
