Hi guys (a long one but bear with me!)
I recentely put up for sale a laptop on Ebay with a BIN of £700, the other day this sold as a user bought the item. I listed the item as a pick up only, he emailed me to say could we arrange a courier, we settled on £720.00 at which I thought would be fine, his address was in Norwich. I looked at his user and saw that he had (0) feedback and only signed up that day...So it begins to look dodgy...
The next day I receive a notification of pending payment for £850.00!
To which he wrote:
Hi there,
Just sent payment for your item via PayPal as promised. Am really sorry regarding the change in shipment destination as it was last minute decision and i informed PayPal of this change and the provided international address has been verified. To confirm that i have sent payment via PayPal please see the below:
Transaction ID: C840-L006-Q999-T2098
International Postage Costs To Nigeria : £150.00
Payment Status: "Pending" until postage is confirmed which is according to PayPal policies in their notifications i received earlier.
POSTAGE ADDRESS:
Mr. Stephen A. Adebanji
23 Medical Road,
Ikeja,
Lagos.
Nigeria.
23401.
Lastly, the name and postage address belongs to my Colleague who works as a Medical Doctor in Nigeria who is currently in need of the item. Please I will like you to proceed with postage arrangements as soon as possible via Parcel Force International Signed For. Reply Promptly.
Now, I have not sent then item, nor have the "funds" cleared yet but this is obviously some sort of scam?
Today I received this email:
You have received an Unpost Item - Account To Be Suspended.
Due to your non-compliance to transaction protocols included in recent payment notifications received from PayPal in regards to payment concerning your recent eBay sales, we are sorry to inform you that your account registered with us would be suspended in nothing less than 24 Hrs. During the period of suspension, you can't use eBay or Half.com in any way, including registering a new account or using an additional existing account. If you owe any fees, they will be charged to the billing method you have on file.
Also, the buyer's account being terminated was due to technical complications thus, we have considered his re-reinstatement request. In order to avoid suspension of your account we strictly advise immediate postage of the item involved.... Is this for real?
I have emailed Ebay and am awaiting some sort of a reply, has anyone had this happened to them? the email was from [email protected]
Can they really do that so soon?
