EBay Impact Wrenches

The irony is i bought a genuine Makita Driver which does 140Nm for like £40. Mainly used for wood screws and undoing 10mm bolts etc. You need to put adapters in to use sockets etc. Uses drill batterys.

Yeah was worth a go for how little it cost I can see it being useful for removing bolts quicker once undone by hand but otherwise waste of money unless I got unlucky with mine....

I am now eying up the Makita:

Got their drill so have batteries for the rated power it seems good and it’s £199 at the jungle.

The small to large setting is only optional for tightening up.

One step is just for undoing.

I did try all three settings and for whatever reason the 17mm wheel bolts on the Abarth when torqued beyond 150nm are beyond this impact gun and if tightened by with a bar by hand it has no chance. So on a suspension bolt I can’t see it having any chance. Unless it dislikes my battery which is an 18v 6ah 100Wh and like yours battery is a tight fit.

I’ll try it on more stuff but the wheel bolt made sense as a test.

Ah yes, the small/large setting is only for tightening.
I'll see what I can dig out next week, hopefully I'll find an old rusty suspension bolt to try it on.

Like you say, it'll still be useful but it may not quite replace the big air gun.

That one is a beast - I have it, gets a bit heavy when underneath the car holding it up, but will undo anything! Barely ever take mine off the lowest setting :D

Yea, price doesn't seem to move on it - paid £200 for mine 3 years ago - only seen it same/higher since, so doubt it'll come down anytime soon. If you already have the batteries and charger (which you do), then is a very reasonable price for what you get

Could do, any recommendations please?

I bought the first one a few weeks back. It is a bit bulky so might be tricky in small spaces but apart from that it seems fine. For the price I think it’s a no-brainier. Hopefully it’ll last longer than a battery powered one. It’s also quite loud but it’s not like you’ll be using it daily for hours on end.

Plenty of reviews to read through on the site :) a few of which mention the lack of speed control but I don’t think you can argue for the price.

Meanwhile the big battery ones are more powerful, and don't have a cable to drag around - both have their plus/minus points, but I always find cables annoying when moving around a car with a tool

Agreed, I’m not saying wired is ‘better’ but it is certainly cheaper. I’ve never needed to use one before (in hindsight I should have used one when I worked on a subframes years ago) so I didn’t see the point in splashing out for something that I’ll barely use. I do plan a big project at some point so I may invest in a cordless one but I’ve never really needed it to date. I was also replying to someone who was looking for a cost effective solution :)

Thanks guys.

Im gonna do this only once so wanna get it rotgut this time so just gonna get the Makita at £199 as it should undo anything and it’s more portable and I’ve got one of 6ah and 4ah Makita batteries here so should be enough to keep it powered an entire day no issues.

That might struggle looks like it has small hammers looking at the size of the housing

if you have dewalt stuff I recommend
http://www.mactools.co.uk/rate-mac-tools-products/12-drive-cordless-brushless-impact-wrench there’s a dewalt equivalent for less or for a kidney you can get 1/2 and 3/8” with a battery each
