Hi, i recently bought a graphics card off ebay but its dead (power on but no display) tested on my pc and tested at a pc repair shop...they agree.

So i messaged the seller to start the return process. He wants to see an engineer receipt or something confirming me saying graphics card doesn't work. I messaged him back with the tel number of the pc repair shop and said he was welcome to phone them to get confirmation (the pc repair shop were happy to confirm verbally but that is all as they don't want to get involved)

So i did that on friday but haven't heard back from him and he hasn't approved the return on ebay yet. Should i just wait for him or can i return the graphics card to him without going through this process?

This is the first time i've had to return anything on ebay (or indeed encountered any problem at all on ebay) so i want to make sure i get my money back. I have a feeling he might want to try and make things difficult.

7 or 8 days since i purchased it.

If you have a feeling he might want to make things difficult, then personally I'd just begin the process (now) of raising a dispute / return via the ebay resolution centre...obviously giving details that the card has been tested and found to be faulty, and then just take it from there.

Keep it all through ebay.

Just follow the resolution process through, and then return the card when instructed by ebay to do so.

Done this but doesnt seem to let you go futher until seller accepts it?

Ok i've been waiting still for the seller to accept the returns process on ebay. Once he does that i'm sure the next step shows me his address so i can print it out.

How do i get his address to return the item otherwise?

(This is probably a stupid question but i dont use this part of ebay much.)

Im also a bit peeved because for a separate transaction i had to return memory (my fault as i ordered wrong memory) i unfortunately sent it 1st class post at least 8 days ago but have heard nothing from the seller on that one either... :(

*bump* arghhh why me?

So ive sent the graphics card back to him (heres what he said)

I have received the GFX card. However: The install bracket has
been bent (not how it was sent) and the piece of fan is missing. The bent
bracket looks like the cards has been forced out of the test system. I will
send a photo if you want. I need this piece to be able to test the card.
Handled correctly, there is no way that piece of the fan would have just
fallen off. I can do nothing until I hear back from you.

afaik i didnt bend anything when testing in my pc and as far as i can see the pc repair shop didnt either so dont know what he is talking about

As regards the piece of fan. It came off when the pc repair place tested the card...it was glued on by the seller prior.

then he tests the card... later email...

I don't know where you got your information but I am running
this card right now and it's absolutely perfect. There will be no refund. I
will even make a video showing you this card working if you insist. My
suspicion is that you have no way of powering the card from your
motherboard and you bought it in error. This is NOT my problem or fault. I
have done everything according to eBays rules.

The thing is...to make sure it wasnt just my pc that had a problem with it i took it to a pc repair place

http://www.thecontrolpanel.co.uk/

They told me it didnt work. When installed the fans come on but no display. (same as what happened to me).

I am by no means pc tech savvy enough this is why i took it in to a pc repair place.

Sounds like he will refuse the refund? What do i do now?

I think he has 8 days to respond and if he doesnt (which looks likely) then i will be able to escalate it . thanks :)

his next reply.. when i replied why would the pc repair shop lie about the card not working..

I have no idea why they would lie! All I can tell you is that the card is
fully working. I've spoken to an eBay representative online this morning
stating my case. Unfortunately for you, as far as I'm concerned, this
graphics card belongs to you. It is in full working order and is in the
c0ondition I stated on my ad. I have broken no rules nor have I misled
anyone. The card is exactly as I described in full working order. In fact,
it came back from you in worse condition. I had to bend a lug for the
holding screw. I will email this PC shop you say tested the card expressing
my concerns and disbelief!!!

It is not my intention to hoodwink anyone &
I stand by my 100% positive feedback. I have fulfilled all my obligations
as a seller. If you want, I will relist the card & I( will give you all
proceeds of the sale. That means if it sells for £27, you get that £27
minus the paypal fee. If it fetches more, you will get more. I cannot offer
more than that.

His next email. I've not said anything to him. I replied to this one saying i plugged the graphics card into my psu and assumed the pc repair shop did the same.

The shop you sent the card to are way off target and they are out of order.
Admittedly, it seems this card only runs with external power. As a buyer, I
assumed you'd be aware of that. I will make a video this weekend showing
you this card in full working order since you sent it back to me. TBH, I
don't see why I have to keep defending my name = I don't lie and my
feedback should show that!

PS: I found the missing piece of
the fan. This should not have broken so, looking at the card and the
condition it came back in, I'd say it has been handled with a heavy hand
(that's just my opinion)

He now doesnt want me to post the above back ^^^ talking about the expense incurred to me...weird!

Anyway he's waiting on the "ebay adjucation panel" and a reply from the pc repair shop.

Well to coin a phrase..... this **** just got real.. *sigh*

latest 2 emails (i should add when i say emails it is all still going through the ebay messaging system)

It's not broken = it's fully working! I've just made a video showing it so.
If you want to start ******* about, you've picked the wrong person!!! The
card is absolutely fine and I've just made a video to prove it! I'll send
you the link in an hour when it's finished uploading.

Complain to eBay,
go to the police, do what the **** you want but I am NOT giving you a
penny. The card was sold in good faith and was properly advertised. You
just changed your mind because you bought the wrong card. The card is
absolutely FULLY WORKING! You have lied all the way through this since you
realised that it needed it's own power supply. Also, I wouldn't be
surprised if the guy at Control Panel is a friend of yours 'in on the
scam'. I'll be showing this video to eBay too btw.

Right! Here's your video made especially for you and eBay:

REMOVED BECAUSE HE SWORE IN THE VIDEO

Don't you dare try and tell me
this is not working! I am not refunding you!

My uncle Alan died
yesterday and I had the ******* bailiffs clamp my car and bug me for 400
quid I had to pay today to get my car back. I'm not in the ******* mood for
your ********...

I havent clicked on the link for the video yet.

If the card works then fine it mustve been a fault with my pc and the pc repair shop mustve messed up testing it somehow. I'm thinking about going down to the repair shop in the morning to make sure they know what they are doing and they didnt make a mistake somehow

He's being quite reasonable offering to relist it and pass the proceeds on to you, I'd probably tell you that if you wanted it back you'd be paying the return postage.

I'm thinking just do this ^^ so i dont get any more grief from this dude (to be honest actually feels from the highly manic and emotional messages that seller is a woman).

Well i never once started verbally abusing him.... i did what most people would do if a pc component didnt seem to work....took it to a pc repair shop.

But your right video looks spot on nothing wrong with card so i don't know what kinda crap The Control Panel are telling me...... :(

But i'll go down tomorrow and have words with them..

It was mentioned though seller said it was very strong and Pc repair shop said it came off when they tried testing the card.

Now i dont understand how a professional pc repair shop can mess up just testing if a graphics card works....either they didn't test it at all and just lied to me or i dunno.....

I'm pretty annoyed at them though...not much i can do because they tested it as a courtesy for me (ie they didnt charge because it was a 5 minute job though i wasnt there when they actually did the testing)

Just spoke to the pc repair shop on the phone. They've said they've received some abusive emails from the seller. The guy who tested the graphics card is actually the manager of the place so i dunno.

Video looks conclusive though. Only thing i thought is if he had plugged in the connector to the monitor slot and not the graphics card slot on the machine.

So either its a broken graphics card and the seller has done a pretty impressive job of making it look like its working.

OR the pc repair shop lied/incompetent and didnt test card or didnt test it properly.

OR the card didnt work for me or the pc repair shop but did work for the seller's pc - is that possible?

Where is MONK when you need him ehh!

yeah but thats the problem with Ebay....genuine sellers get a raw deal by unscrupulous buyers. If the card works then i have no problems with taking it back. The money doesn't really bother me. However given all the abuse hes chucked at me i dont think i will be giving him positive feedback.

Well if you look at his selling history its 100% so hes probably raging that he is being done over no? Just trying to see the other side of this.

I could not give a monkeys whether he comes up here tbh :D

Just get your money back and then send him the postage he paid. The fees for selling it will be refunded by eBay so he will be at no loss.

Thinking about asking him to send me the card back - i will then go to another 2 pc repair shops for them to test and if card works then no worries.

I'm not working right now so i have a lot of time on my hands, i dont mind doing this.

I guess its the mystery of not knowing whether its actually a working card or not.
