Has anyone ever had issues selling stuff on eBay, the reciever saying the item doenst work, when you know it does, and then having to chase RM or eBay/Paypal.

I've got some bits on there at the mo but have them as collection only as I dont fancy posting them just for some oik to claim they dont work and then Paypal take the money from me on the buyers word..

Huge numbers of problems as witnessed by the countless threads here

And as the seller, you'll lose most cases

Although collection only might stop that. In which case, perhaps Gumtree might be better (and free)

You have nearly 2500 posts on this forum and you're asking whether anyone ever has issues selling stuff on ebay? TBH we should probably have a sub forum by now..

I sold a CPU on eBay once, sent it special delivery, the buyer left feedback claiming fast delivery. Then a few weeks later he complained (via eBay messages) he couldn't get it to work (surprisingly took him a few weeks to decide this), so he asked to return it which I agreed and asked him to send it back as per eBay rules. It never arrived and when I asked he said he had sent it in a 2nd class envelope, then opened an item not received case against me, which he won, because eBay.

people will only ever post when they have issues, I once had a car crash so best not to drive...

I also sold 100's of items on ebay and had less than 1% issues of any sort.. made 100's of purchases with no major issues (that were not sorted by the seller or paypal easily)

I've sold a lot of low value items on Ebay. Probably around 200+ items for a total of about £4k to £5k.

Problems I've had:
- a lost in post PC game (jewel case), sold for £1. Probably genuine (why bother otherwise?)
- a new, unopened, in box kids game sold for ~£14 that the buyer claimed didn't work but, after they opened a case and I asked for details of the problem, the case closed in my favour after they didn't respond at all.
- an old stereo amp, sold for ~£25, that I had only checked with one speaker connected. The buyer said that only one speaker channel worked (probably the one I checked). I believe him and arranged a partial refund to his satisfaction.

And the only one that still bites:
- A Nintendo Game & Watch (bought from a boot sale for £1) sold for £110. Sent to France using International Tracked. It never got delivered according to the tracking, the buyer contacted me to say it hadn't arrived. I checked the terms and found I needed to wait a little longer to make a mail claim and told the buyer, who waited patiently. I got lazy and didn't follow through with RM, thinking it was sorted as buyer didn't contact until nearly 3 months later when he opened a Paypal case. Tracking still didnt say delivered. I asked Ebay if I could refund him and, if it arrived later, that they could retrieve the money - they said yes. So I issued a refund.
Contacted RM - they investigated and, suddenly, the tracking updated to say it had been delivered. 3.5 months late. Meant I couldn't claim from RM for the loss. Back to Ebay - they can't get the cash back despite earlier advice. When I quote the earlier conversation, they refer me to a legal department address.

So one problem of consequence in lots of selling. It's been fine, really.

Yeah nearly 2500 posts and still not used to the useless sarcastic posts lol

I was more interested in the chances of sorting something out, either through eBay/Paypal or RM, if I send an item out I know works, then the buyer says it doesnt work, most times when a case is opened Paypal will take the money back off of you and you're left without the item or the money...

Good description, good photos and as well packaged as reasonable possible. Proof of postage and signed for delivery. I've not had an issue with RM but I do tend to stick to DHL/Fedex/DPD/UPS and avoid the bargain basement couriers.

Can't really do much more other than collection only or local free ads etc. if the potential lose is too great.

Sold a dyson hoover for sixpence and ended up waking up in a bath of ice after having my kidneys removed with a trowel.

Then they opened a case against me and i ended up paying them for the pleasure.

Oh my christ, since when did collection only mean, win the auction, then arrange a courier to come get it...

Not always as it's something I have done myself, but always ensure I have discussed and arranged with the seller first.

The only way I would let something go is with cash.

I've done a fair amount of high value selling on ebay and one of the reasons I don't any longer (aside from the frankly ludicrous fees) is how heavily they come down on the side of the buyer, its crazy.

The only positive part is once you've gone over their (I think) 60 day period then it flips back the other way and ebay don't give a stuff about the buyer.

Before that it's refund first ask questions later.

Fair to say I wont bother again, too much hassle, people winning auctions, then cancelling because its collection only..
Guy has paid by paypal and is now coming to collect..

And you "may" have already being scammed then, You should only take cash if person is collecting as you have no proof they have collected the item. He "might" collect and then a day or so later file a claim for none delivery and Ebay will give him a full refund.,

Considering most of my stuff was high value small items I never EVER wanted to do collection.. Just seems like a recipe for disaster to me.

Also bear in mind if it's collection you can only really use cash or BT, paypal require proof of postage to protect against claims which clearly you won't get with collection.

The come down on the Seller's side sometimes. I had a PSP battery never arrive, yet Hermes (had other issues with those guys) claimed it had. Seller was not interested in helping and Ebay sided with the seller.

Added to that I then left negative feedback, which Ebay then retracted and the same seller kept on messaging me asking me to leave positive feedback. After around 5 messages I emailed back telling them to stop contacting me, for obvious reasons I was not going to give them positive feedback. I only lost out on £5 at the end of the day so it is not the end of the world, but have added the seller to my blacklist.

Sold a brand new/unopened Draytek 120 Modem a while back, buyer received it all is well, then messages me to say he's made a mistake it's not the one he wanted, demanded to return it for a full refund and I would cover the return cost.

Replied I don't accept refund (unless faulty which it wasn't) and explained i'm not business seller so 14 day returns do not apply and reminded him should know what your're bidding on!.

Anyway, ended up going though claims to which I won, surprisingly LOL

You went to a small claims court over a £50 modem? I find that hard to believe.

That happens quite a lot actually, I just make sure they send me confirmation which normally isn't a problem.
