you sold a working item,
you got a broken item back that was the same one you sent..
I say it was the transit that caused the issue.
I am sure if a lot of people here packaged up their old laptops and threw them down the stairs then kicked them around a bit, shook them, left then them to freeze - numerous poepl would find the machines no longer worked correctly...
sony do the best laptop packaging ive ever saw.Depends how you package them and who your courier is for laptops. For example if you ship by special delivery and don't use their packaging guidelines including putting fragile stickers on the outer packaging, they can refuse claims. Switched off a Laptop will take a shed load of abuse as long as it is well packaged.
Good practice if you feel OCD about it all is to use 20-30mm+ styrene insulation sheeting around the box to make a new outer box (then wrap in freight/packing paper).
Always ship in a laptops original packaging box which has the internal cardboard which suspends the laptop but holds securely. This style of oem packaging is used for very good reason and absorbs a hefty impact.
Standard or Special delivery? Tell him to put a claim in for the damage caused when he returned the laptop. He claimed the keyboard wasn't working now you have extra issues that weren't caused by you or him according to himself so put it down to Royal mail.Although it is possible it got damaged in transit I would say it is unlikely.
1 - It was in it's original packaging. In a box, suspended by cardboard inside.
2 - I used a courier.
He sent it back by royal mail.
The thing is, when it arrived with him, he claims half the keys didn't work. He sent it back and the screen and wifi card are faulty. This looks like classic water damage to me. IE, spilt water, keyboard became faulty. Water trickles into other components which then become faulty.
As I say, maybe it did get damaged in transit but it seems unlikely.

no because then ebay will rule in the buyers favour and if hes successful on the royal mail claim RM will give him money aswell!
Look OP at the end of the day you screwed up and have been screwed over as a result. Best advice is too go get this fixed (what £30 max) and go from there. stop ****ing about with this buyer leave him bad feedback and job done.
Or say you never got the laptop back?Standard or Special delivery? Tell him to put a claim in for the damage caused when he returned the laptop.

He sent it back by royal mail.
His English is poor but he has (in a way) admitted he caused the fault with the keyboard
Why would you do that?no because then ebay will rule in the buyers favour and if hes successful on the royal mail claim RM will give him money aswell!
