Eclipse...Metal Aloy Front Cover?

There is supposed to be a magnesium one - but I have REALLY searched and I could not find one.

Someone posted in a Case Central thread a few months ago and hinted that the original incarnation of the Eclipse (before Akasa took it on) had this magnesium front panel.

But as I don't know what the case was called before, that doesn't help us much. Anyone know?

I think the case was called SR-71 before akasa 're-branded' it and stamped the akasa logo on the front and named it eclipse.

I think i might make my own front for it soon, the case is so damn good - shame the front lets it down :(

Get a Lian Li :p

You could get a local machine shop to make you one, should not be to expensive and would give you a super desirable case.

I think there would be high demand for alloy fronts for the eclipse, if the price was right that is. Maybe if someone here owns a or has access to a machine shop then they could make a few bob. A nice brushed aluminum front in the same shape as the plastic one  , magnesium would be even better but mega expensive i should imagine. I think the Lian Li case fronts look a bit bland tbh, i much prefere the eclipse but would be better if it was alloy. All black brushed aluminum the the Akasa logo could be in silver aluminium  .

I believe the case was called globalwin 61f1 aluminum server case before Akasa rebadged it, its exactly the same apart from silver. So is the SR-71 the black version or sumat?.

The sr71 was the black version, I also think the cooling vents were altered, its identical to the Eclipse.

Although I do not really know why people moan about a case which is one of the best out there bar the front!

If Lian Li made a case like the eclipse. Would have a side mounted fan and aluminium everywhere and command a price tag of £180 probably.

Its a superb case for the money and if it was around the money, its between that and a pc7se for me.

But as I said earlier your local machine shop might be able to help you out with it :)

i dont moan about the front, infact i like it, thats why i bought the case but an alloy front would look the nuts. I wouldnt go to the extent of getting one made but if they were to be made available at the right price id prolly buy one.

Yeh. Shame they are not would be a cool optional extra.

If they did do the front I would be tempted to rate it as the second best case out imo!

V1000+ first of course, but its just my opinion.

Was called SavRow SR-71 Blackbird before it became the eclipse :)

Is it just me or would a "magnesium" front be a really bad idea, major oxidation problems. Don't know about magnesium alloy though, whats so special about it. Never heard of it being used for cases before.

Probs would cost a fair bit to have one custom made though, spose it might be worth it as it would be pretty different

I see where peeps are coming from the case front is a bit plasticy and not quite fitting in with the rest of the case itself.

But its still nice and better looking then most, I ponder if the Antec P180 would have been better but I do digg the design and 2x 120mm fan support, and the size is massive.

I didnt like the bright leds though so disconnected them + noticed the light wondered to the other leds...

Its not the magnesium used at school that disolves in water :D , its used for mp3 players and tool gear boxes and stuff, its stronger than aluminium and lighter and looks nice to boot.
