Been onto the phone again to them this afternoon spoke to tech support and they say they are looking into the problem of slow p2p download speeds at the weekend, least they know they have a problem, then the tech guy put me intouch with the sales team who assured me they DO NOT throttle p2p sites and have no intention to in the future.

If this is only affecting p2p ports and your sources are definately up to it, then eclipse must be throttling it.

Having said that i am on eclipse and i havent noticed anything at any times of day, you might just be suffering from contention at the weekends?

well my p2p this weekend was terrible only 30k .in a way am glad to hear it is a problem, hope they fix it soon or i will be requesting a mac from them :)

Im afraid they are throttling, count yourself lucky ive been getting it on Tiscali for a week, they are only allowing 5k or less on p2p, anytime of the day, hence why i phoned up this afternoon and requested a MAC code, should get it shortly then im off. :D

My mates just gone on to Eclipse few weeks ago, luckily hes on pay as you go, as hes leaving now as they have started throttling/shaping on p2p, they are doing it, but they will not tell you.

Some customers may be experiencing an issue with the performance of their Internet connection when using file sharing applications. Eclipse engineers are currently investigating the traffic management system recently implemented to isolate and resolve the issue. Eclipse apologises for any inconvenience caused.

It's wierd as some people at Eclipse say yes, some people say no, some people say they don't know...

Hopefully it's just a glitch on the shaping gear which has caused it to over manage the traffic.

This is what they sent me today as proof of action. Outage Ticket:

Hey guys, just to let you know, eclipse (im on them to) are using the fair usage policy and to throttle p2p to 30% of your bandwith during heavy traffic i.e weekends and 6pm - 12pm weekdays

Where did you get the 30% figure from?

and during today BEFORE 6pm :)
i never got above 30 k :(

I just shifted over onto Eclipse's Evolution Broadband, I've been with them ~3 years now.

It was only a matter of time before they implemented some sort of Fair Use policy TBH. They are throttling/shaping between 6PM and midnight. Between these times, my bittorrent/usenet downloads are approx 130KB/s, outside these times, I get the full 8MB So I just schedule my downloads for these times. Ce la vie! I'm on Evolution Option 3 btw.

Be realistic. You're primarily downloading music and movies (nobody needs that many Linux ISOs ;)) like everyone else. Until they upgrade the whole network to fibre, there will be a physical limit to how much data can be pumped up and down the wires. You're getting it for free, so stop complaining!

The fair usage policy currently relates to the Evolution Broadband service only. The table below shows the number of gigabytes (GB) per month that maybe transferred during peak hours which are from 6pm until midnight every day.
Evolution Broadband/Peak Limit/Off Peak Limit
Option 1 20GB None
Option 2 30GB None
Option 3 40GB None
Option 4 50GB None

BUT i am downloading off peak and still am struggling to get over 30k
so i my case they have got the `shaping` wrong it appears to be very aggresive 24/7 for me.
i really cannot see me being with eclpse next month at this rate :(

They've acknowledged there's a problem and seem to have sorted it, now back to 300KB/s instead of 30KB/s on the same gateway that was causing the problem before.

Problem now is http is <1meg...

/sigh
