Edifier R1600T Speakers on mental deal!!!

For anyone sitting on the fence, get of it and buy.

I bought these at Xmas and they truly sound lovely and look great.

Very tempting. I have an ageing set of Inspire 5.1s (over 10 years old). Done me proud but the surround sound never seems to work with my music and I don't game all that often.

Some 'questions'......

  • Will these plug straight into my onboard sound (Asrock Z77)?
  • Has any one switched from a pair of e.g. 2.1s to these? Did you miss the bass?
  • What is a good sound card to go with this (£30-£70)?
  • What plug comes with them? Some user reviews suggest it comes with a European power plug?

Thank :)

I have a set of these so will have a go at your questions.

  • Yes, they will connect using a 3.5mm stereo adapter cable that comes included (iirc). As long as your onboard sound has a 3.5mm stereo out it will connect.
  • I had a pair of 2.1's before these - they don't produce quite as much base but they are in no way lacking imho. I have never found them wanting so to speak.
  • I use an Asus Xonar DX and they sound a treat running through that.
  • Mine came with a european power plug (2 pin) however I had a spare adapter lying around anyway so didn't really care. In every other way they are brilliant speakers so I wouldn't let that put you off :)

Hope that helps :)

Ah, very tempting! But I had to get rid of my Wharfedale 10.1s and amp because of the size. Just got some small Hercules 2.0 30 speakers atm. Granted these aren't too much bigger than the Hercules, and quite a lot smaller than the Wharfedales. They wouldn't fit on my current desk at uni, but moving place this summer.. Hmmmmmmmmm......

Damn you OcUK, why do you have to make me want to spend my money? I suppose as I'm splashing out £3000 on components for my new build, another £50 wouldn't hurt too much...

Thanks for your help. As I am buying some other components, think I will get the Xonar DGX - seems to receive a good press and a decent price. Presume it will be better than my onboard & 5.1.

I'm still using Acoustic Energy Aego Ms... which appear to have almost doubled in price since I bought mine. They were regularly selling for £80 about 6 years ago, now they're listed at £150... I guess good audio kit doesn't depreciate.

However, they are starting to show their age and one of the satellites makes an odd harmonic vibration at a certain frequency. A 2.0 system would be slightly more practical too.

So I ask... how would these R1600Ts compare to an Aego M setup? Seems kinda crazy that my speakers are being sold at three times the price...

Ordered the speakers but held back on the Xonar DGX. Turns out the Realtek chip (ALC898) in my onboard sound isn't too shabby so will see what it's like with that first.

Any word on what plug the OcUK versions come with?
