Hi Guys,

Sig: C2D 6300, DS3, 1900XT, Geil 2GB, 500W PSU.

Just transfered all my hardware into my new Akasa Eclipse 62. I've added a few things, another HDD, a fan controller, a card reader, a SATA DVD-RW and a few new fans. I'm powering up but it's not posting. The monitor stays in stand by and says that a signal from the PC is not being detected.

I noticed when i powered up in my old case the Graphics Card fan would spin up at full speed and then quiten down when it posted. This time it's spinning up and staying at full speed.

I've tried clearing the CMOS, unplugging all new hardware so that only CPU, Graphics Card and memory are left in and swapping the DVI port but it's not had an effect.

Any ideas? I'm desperate to fix this asap!

TIA

Nope don't have another PCI-E Card and pretty much no one i know has either! :(

CPU is definitely set ok as i didn't re-seat it. I literally swapped the fan in the heatsink (Tuniq Tower) and re-attached it.

Now this is going to sound like a silly question - but it happens ive done it myself :p

Have you remembered the 4 pin power plug on the mobo and also the gfx power cable?

Yep, made sure of that as i made that mistake when i first built it. I'll double check that it's plugged in correctly and let you know. Might even try the other 4 pin adapter from my PSU. Just removed the memory to see if i got any beeps and it's not made a difference... :(

Does the HDD light flash at all. Just to rule out the possibility that its actually booting but you just arent getting a signal on the monitor

No the HDD light does not flash, The Fan Controller comes on, the DVD-RW has power as does the card reader. The power LED doesn't flash either.

Basically the only thing that has changed is the case? Changed PSU? Switched the PSU to 110v (though i suspect it is autoswitching)?

So shorting against the case is possible. Rebuild on antistatic mat, Already said above.

OR

Double check the wires that connect the Power Button and the HDD led to the mobo - infact remove all except the PW_SWITCH. Though I don't think a misplaced one would case the problems you describe.

I have literally changed the case and nothing else. There are a few other things connected to the motherboard like the front USB connections. I'm gonna have to try and rebuild i guess, just hope nothing has been damaged. I'm usually very careful about shorting and touch the radiator every now and again. Just cannot understand what could've happened! Very frustrating

I'm going to swap the fan in my tuniq this weekend, you've spooked me now.

Tried clearing the CMOS? Also, put the old fan back and try to boot. I heard a possible boot issue if the mobo didn't detect a suitable fan plugged in to the CPU socket then it wouldn't boot to save the CPU from heat damage...

Well i've just re-built outside of the case and it's posting! Hurrah! I've plugged the CPU fan straight into the motherboard instead of into the controller also. Not entirely sure what could be causing it. I'll try and re-build inside the case tonight if i have time but it will probably be tomorrow.

You should be able to run the Tuniq without a fan altogether though right? It's just probably not a very good idea ;)

Have a look in the BIOS and see if there is anything about halting on no CPU fan.

Glad it's posting, fingers crossed it make it into the case okay...

Why are computers so fragile?

You should, and there are a few passive heatsinks as well (the Ninja didn't used to come with a fan). I just remembered some mobos had an issue with starting without detecting a CPU fan, even so far as some fans that ran at low revs not even registering!

It is so frustrating when it won't even post - at least when you can get into the BIOS, you have some options and information.

Yeah at least i'm getting it to post. The last thing i wanted was to fork out some more cash for new parts after spending so much money on it. I'll just have to take it really slowly when i get it back into the case.

You did this? That is the key I supect.

Most motherboards will not boot when the CPU fan is disconnected. They have no idea you have installed something fanless - or directly to a fan controller.

Ok, it works when i fire it up not connected to the motherboard tray so i'm guessing there's a problem there.....
