So I just took delivery of the Ek predator 360 today. I have installed it but I am wondering about a few things.

So I am currently putting it through it paces on a i6700k@Stock. So on Realtemp it reports the idle at 25-28C which certainly is sounds like it working fine as intended. But once I fire up realbench and run an 1 hour stress test it hits roughly 90-95c on all cores within seconds. I have use the thermal grizzly and nothing has been overclocked. Yet when I see other members post they have much lower load temps and that even with a gfx card in the loop

Is this just me not having a good contact? I can always remount a few times to see if that works.

Or is this what other people are getting as I thought load temps were much lower because if that the operating temps for this unit then I seriously dissapointed.

One other ting which might sound really strange. There is a strange smell coming from the unit. As wacky as this sounds. But I am currently waiting for the case of choice to be released so this is very much all the components stuck together ghetto mode to test if working with no case. So the it is exhausting air towards me.

And it smells. Not like sewage smell bu there is certainly a strange odour coming off it. Is this normal as crazy as it sounds. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

You have a serious problem. No idea what it is, but at 6700 stock shouldn't go above about 50c and probably not that high. my 6700 under a True Spirit 140 rev. A idles 25-28c and stress tests at 50-55c.

A sealed coolant system does have any odor. No idea how 'sewage smell' got into it.

Did you remove the plastic backing from the cooler? Most of them come with plastic film so they don't get scratched, could explain the temps and the smell.

I've always wondered why they use transparent plastic instead of red, orange, yellow, black, green, etc.

Seems they are trying to see how many of us miss or forget to remove it.

Even after mounting hundreds of coolers we sometimes forget to pull it off.

I now always pull it off and stick it on my bench lamp. Kinda like my motorhome vent having a clip on it that when opened is clipped to the steering wheel so it isn't left open when we drive off. :o

honestly not got the foggiest idea why.

Thanks for the help guys I got it sorted. The first thing I did was remove the protective cpu block adhesive. It was an mount issue.

i am glad you got it resolved :).

EK use the big white 'please remove' on their standalone CPU blocks, so I'm puzzled as to why they don't do so on the Predator range??

Mine had the please remove stick as well. I removed that as soon as I took it out of the box. And as for the temps. I have no base comparison as I only just bought the 6700k setup and haven;t used any cooler on it besides this predator.

So at stock clocks. it idling 22/23 give or take and when i run real bench @50c then +/- 1/2

I have the EK Predator 360, going to fit it next weekend I hope.

Good to see low temps. i will having my 980ti on it too!:D

Question to you guys that have it, how has you mounted it? up top, front or other way?

I have the Evolv ATX and don't know what is best to mount it. I really want it in the front, but then I would have to change the fans about and stuff. It's far easier to mount it at the top i think.

Hi copey. I have the evolv atx as well but i prefer to mount it in the top. THe predator is acutally ghettoed to a 6700k setup san case but I am hoping to get time to put it in the case only problem that where my other setups is and just trying to motivate myself to do it.

Thanks for getting back to me. I might just mount it at the top for now... seems easy. Remove the back fan and slot it in (just about it's tight!).

Before getting my system I think I found your system Pete.... or someone elses on here with just a 240 and temps with gpu was ok.

Pete did you change the fans around for front mount? and was it pain to do?

I really want it in the front since it's nice and tidy, rather than a big black thing at the top.

Mine is a 360 on the front. I'd say it was pushing it for the 240 with a heavy OC on CPU and GPU. I've got the fans in push pull so did need to turn them. Not a massive hassle, but the push pull means I've got two fans off each header with splitters and the pump off it's own header so I can have it running 100% and not own based on fan custom rpm speeds.
