Elder Scrolls MMO

Why are they advertising this 'mega server' idea so much?

Correct me if I'm mistaken, but isn't it just a version of what Guild Wars had over 7 years ago? You could choose what instance of the world you wanted to be in and it was split up into regions. I thought it worked well for GW but for a big MMO it would diminish the social aspect, guilds you might be at war with could run off into other instances and hide. You end up rarely meeting the same players again and a community doesn't form properly.

On the plus side it'd save having to merge servers down the road

maybe they're doing something like what the secret world does. basicly it is a mega server. but you do choose a server of sorts initially but cant jump servers unless someone invites you to a group, either by knowing who you are or finding you in lfg tool. then as soon as you leave the group and leave the area you're in with that group you jump back to your "default" server, so yeah thats a big enough mmo and isnt too instanced (not completly seamless like wow but has zones like eq, ffxi etc) and works pretty well.

Tips for an "excellent" rating? :p

Put your details in (obviously), plus the DXDiag results.

Sorted!

I signed up for beta, although I'm not too excited about this game tbh. Hopefully it'll be prove me wrong, but the track record for western MMO's is not that good for me personally.

It's how I feel as well. I want to give it a try and see how it it though. I might be surprised.

Interesting, when trying to sign up through Safari or Chrome nothing happens and the Complete Beta Application button simply turns grey. I tried Firefox and it instantly went through and loaded up a page thanking me for signing up.

I thought something was up! I signed up twice last night because i didnt think it went through. Just done it again.

I lost a lot of fatih as soon as I found out about the world server... I simply can't see how this will ever work. I hope they proove me wrong...

a single shard works in EvE, mind you thats got the universe to space people out. I beleive the game world is going to be the size of a virtual Great Britain so hopefully lag and whatnot won't be an issue. Kind of makes a lot of sense if you ask me.

Absolute ********, the ingame world wont even be close to that size, not even close. The game will instead utilize instancing heavily and have multiple layers of each zone, as is standard for a lot of MMOs these days.

It makes sense to do it, but is it a little too ambitious? What works for EVE may not work for what is undoubtedly going to be the biggest MMO releases of the last decade. I mean, Can you imagine the server lag? Not too mention problems with respawn rates and the like.

I'm not being cynical here I dont think. Look at the fiasco blizzard had with the servers upon D3s release with there zoned servers... Not too mention Bethesdas notorioius reputation for releasing horrifically buggy (in that kinda cute way) games.

U mad bro?

I might be getting confused, but I'm sure I saw an interview with a dev posted within the ESO thread on Rerolled where they talked about the game world size and it was mentioned it was in comparison to Daggerfall.
