Elder Scrolls MMO

"unique new take on player-vs-player, in which the three factions battle over sections of land or a desired position of power" <-- haha unique???? are they taking the **** or what?

Pretty interested by this but depends how it turns out. If its exactly the same as skyrim but just with actual online people then this will be epic!

Wouldn't it be great if it were really immersive. So you don't have to be an "adventurer". Instead you could be a yarl, or a thane, or a smithy. Be quite cool to be the best smithy in tamriel and have other players come seek you out by word of mouth. Would make the game really cool if people could play roles in the town.

And to make things interesting, the town could come under attack, so even if you're a smithy, you get the odd bit of action.

Although I imagine that I would definitely be a lone hunter, sneaking around, and waiting for unspecting travellers in the woods. A nice little hut. Probably a bit of friction with the local bandit clan. But a mutual respect knowing that I could take at least 50% of them out if they tried anything on with me.

I'm getting carried away now.

Yup, bet its broken heart time with lock targetting, action buttons, cooldowns etc. what i would give for darkfall/skyrim/open world sandbox action with as much emphasis on crafting as combat, exploration over rigid quest progression... Well they say theyve been working on it six years so guess we'll find out soon.

my experiences of SWTOR which is heavily based around a single player game whilst levelling (imho) has given me an idea of the two just dont work well together

itll be interesting to find out more though as it comes

Are you kidding? An MMO as you have described above cannot exist in the modern world. One player being the best Smithy and will be sought out by all players? This would mean that that person would have to have access to game content which no other, or hardly any other players, would have access to. Sony tried this with Jedi's in Star Wars Galaxies and others players cried foul that they could not access content that they paid for and were paying monthly for.

MMO's today pander to the players who want the best loot/quick fix as soon as they can; every carrot dangles easily within reach. An MMO to make certain content sooo grind intensive so that hardly any players would have the time to get there will just fail imo as the shear futiliy of an MMO would just be amplified more than it already is.

This will be no different than any other MMO on the market. SWTOR showed that a story cannot be successfully woven into an MMO completely; outside of the story it is the same grind. An in-escapable fact of the MMO.

For that reason I see no reason to get excited about this in any way. I do hope that the developers manage to pull something out of the bag with this, but I have little doubt that much trumpeted unique features and unique gameplay will be little more that surface tweaks on well known and established MMO tropes. Tweaks that will eventually do little to hide the 'same old'.

I really feel that the glory days of MMO's are gone and this was no more clearly illustrated and made obvious by SWTOR. Sorry to rain on your parade but I really do think that this is the case and judging by some of the responses seen already, a lot of people feel this way. At least about turning this particular franchise into an MMO anyway.

So long as this doesn't effect any future TES games I couldn't give a toss.

I wouldn't be surprised to to see the project sap some people from Bethesda, so don't expect a TES:VI any time soon. :(.

Hopefully the DLC that comes out will still be awesome though and the modding community keeps the game alive for many years to come.

What I would love is the ability to be ably to attack anything and anyone in the game, but with a crime system, and plenty of powerful guards, kind of like in the single player Elder Scrolls games. That way it's more realistic. I also hope to be able to loot the bodies of your victims completely.

You've not rained on my parade. What I wrote I would love to happen. Nothing more than a dream game. As for being the best smithy, I'm sure you would have competition from other smithies. Who knows, being a rival smithy, I'm sure you could perform the ritual for the dark brotherhood. At what price though I wonder.

No no no no no no no!

TES co-op might work IMO (would be fun in Skyrim for example instead of AI companions) but MMO? While I like the idea, I just can't imagine anyone pulling it off.

I'll remain dubious on this one. I really want it to be good but I just don't think it will be :/

BORING news. I'm getting sick to death of MMO's. Gameplay restrictions, rules, balancing, measured dice-roll combat, everyone the same, slow paced drudgefest!

I hope this doesn't affect future Elder Scrolls games.
