Elder Scrolls VI Announced!

Possible hint of ES6 being shadow dropped like Oblivion remastered. Can only hope its not too far away.

i guess when i read the same article they were showing me different text

Todd Howard wants you to know something straight off the bat: The Elder Scrolls 6 is “still a long way off”. The game’s director is sitting in his home office, in Rockville, Maryland, flanked by shelves decorated with game and movie memorabilia. “I’m preaching patience,” he tells me. “I don’t want fans to feel anxious.”

Bethesda hasn't released a good game since 2011

No reason to believe ES6 will be good
Well there is that.
Plus even Skyrim was pretty boring and with glaring UI issues until the mods changed that.
Worse, Starfield does not seem as moddable. And due the way the game was received etc. the modding community seems far smaller with only 11,6k mods (103 classified as "Quests") after over 2 years - unsure how that compares to Skyrim at that stage but I suspect it was more; a search implies that in Sept 2012 (10 months after release) there were already 10K+ Skyrim mods.
Then there is that Bethesda is now owned by Microsoft who might want to ruin the whole thing with micro-transction or other ways to moneytise things.
Then there is the question of what engine?
A brand new Creation Engine?
A mix of Creation Engine and UE5 as the front end? If so, how moddable is Oblivion Remastered?
Without the TES Creation Kit, even very popular games like TW3 after over 10 years only have 8k mods and only 156 are Quests and Adventures: https://www.nexusmods.com/witcher3/mods/categories/
CyperPunk2077 has 18k mods (after nearly 5 years), but not a single one is catergorised as Quests and Adventures on Nexus: https://www.nexusmods.com/cyberpunk2077/mods/categories/
(Skyrim has 3,2k mods marked as Quests with some better than official DLCs.)

If TES6 ships without a proper Creation Kit, we would be stuck with whatever copy and paste location and NPCs Bethesda have created. Just hope Todd doesn't think that because Skyrim remained popular for so long, that this was due to Bethesda's amazingly detailed content. Because we all know that TES5 like Arena, Daggerfall, Morrowind, Oblivion was pretty empty. And even after all the years of mods, a game where 90% of all NPCs are spawning bandits and less than 5% are farmers etc. - pretty unrealistic even for fantasy Norselands.

I've said it before but I'm not hyped about it but I will absolutely be playing it, probably on release.
I managed to get 200 hours out of Starfield lol. I'm sure I can manage with the next elder Scrolls

Much anticipated
But is it?

Unless I'm mistaken, I don't think anyone here has much anticipation for it.

Perhaps the kids will, but I wonder why. The game was released exactly 14 years ago today. A kid that's 14 won't have been alive to play skyrim, so their experience of elder scrolls will at best be that old dated game dad played.

Those that was 18 odd years old when skyrim came out, have waited so long they have 2 kids, mortgage, responsibilities etc.

Gta6 is much anticipated. I don't think the next elder scrolls game is.

I watch with interest due to having played their last 3 elder scrolls games. But it's crazy to think in the gap we have had since skyrim, the 3 previous elder scrolls games were released in a small time span

We could probably get stuck in the weeds of exactly what "much anticipated" means, but I think the fact remains that it's one of the titles with the most excitement around it.

If they released a gameplay trailer tomorrow, all of the gaming websites would go absolutely nuts and there would be thousands of articles written about it and reaction videos etc.

I do agree that a lot of people are very sceptical of it after the dodgy releases of Fallout 4, 76 and Starfield, but even then people will be interested to see what comes out of it.

The other thing is that there's still no real competitor to Skyrim or TES more generally. Some games have done similar things, but in terms of the world building, scale, ability to create stories within a save etc I don't think anything else has really achieved it.

So even if it's a bit disappointing, it will still be doing things that other games aren't even attempting.

On the whole though, I'm definitely more sceptical than anything else.

How dare you!!! Fallout 76 is a masterpiece.
Hadn't even realised that FO76 was their own development - though like TES: Online some third party had made it for them.

However, going just by what is in the Wikipedia under Troubled Development:
(as opposed to going to the original sources quoted by the wiki)
Is insightful and doesn't leave a good impression on the development cycle, nor Todd's ability to lead a large project. None of which bodes well for TES6.

A pity as nobody else has made such a free and open world as previous TES. And nothing on the horizon seems likely to replace that.
