Electric Bike Conversion Kit or Electric Bike?

Yep :p

I still dont know how I managed to bag a £1.1k mountain bike from my old job, which I have kept and is still in sweet condition when I used to have to do a 69 mile round trip to work

Didn't cost me a shilling, not even though tax

As theres no qualifying requirements as far as i can see. i'm looking into it seem to save around 1/3rd. Would quite like a hybrid and some bags. Company offers it so all is good.

40mph +, not bad :p

Could you squeeze anymore?

Do you have any videos of this in action? how long does it last if you are maxing it out

I could squeeze more out of it by upping the voltage - but it's a still just a cycle - a cycle with skinny tyres, no suspension and rim brakes (although they are hydraulic) - 40mph is plenty fast enough - I cruise at 25mph most of the time.

No videos - no incriminating evidence ;)

Range at 40mph is only about 7 miles but @ 25mph it will do 20+ miles and @ 16mph it does over 50 miles.

Are they any good uphill?

Forgot - my build thread - you can see how it's evolved.

And I'm about to do another conversion on this:-

I've just had a very enjoyable 30 minutes riding this bike around an industrial estate - http://www.electric-bike-conversions.co.uk/acatalog/electric_bike_conversion_1.html
This is a really cheap £200 bike that wasn't a pleasure to ride without assistance but as soon as I turned on the 1st pedal assist setting it took off. There is a bank and it took me up no problem with assist and then I had a circuit going round with just the throttle. While pedaling I hit 25 mph no problem.
I'm really impressed.

Do you still get a workout on a electric bike? Or does it remove the exercise part entirely?

Its like a normal bike but when you press a button it helps you up steep hills etc?

You can ride it like a normal bike for 100% of your journey if you so wish.
On the one I tried it had six settings:
Off
Pedal assist 1,2,3 & 4
Throttle (you never need to pedal).

Because of this thread, the last thread and the awful commute I had today both there & back I am now very close to ordering the Cyclotricity Stealth on the Cycle To Work Scheme.
Before idiots have a go at me let me explain that I'm 55 with advancing arthritis in my hips, spine and knees with a host of other problems including asthma and I've been commuting every day for the last 15 months but I now need a bit of help on about 10% of my commute.
This morning the wind was that strong against me that I didn't recover my senses before my return home and the cold freezing wind had changed direction and I'm sitting here still trying to recover.
Call me a big girl but I'm still making the effort for 90% of the journey.

Anyway, we have a massive eBike shop in Stoke called Ebike Shed but they didn't stock the bike I wanted when I rang yesterday but he contacted me at 6pm to tell me they now have a deal with the company.
The final cost on Cycle To Work will be £544 + around £40 at the end of the 12 months if my last bike was anything to go by.

I have an electric bike, de-restricted it gets around 22mph on the flat with little effort. It's a mountain bike with a crank drive motor though, because they are much better for hilly and off road areas.

I'm sure with a more racing style bike you do a few mph faster.

Saves so much money compared to using a car as electric costs are pennies and as with any bike, traffic is far less of an issue.

But did you see the price - £488 just for a wheel
Compare that with the £800 I've just paid for the above or the cheaper Cyclotricity Revolver at £649.

The Wheel comes in at Weight 5.9 kg / 13 lbs so if I swapped my back wheel I would only be gaining a few kg to turn it electric. I would be carrying it up and down 3 flights of stairs daily. :)

Thinking about converting my MTB with one of these Cyclotricity kits.
How big is the bottle battery? I can't seem to find any information on their site. My bike is a full sus and has less room in the triangle than a traditional bike.
