Elite Dangerous - how is your graphics card handling this game and at what settings?

So my Gigabyte 780ti seems to have met it's match at 1440p 144hz (ROG Swift monitor) in Elite Dangerous...in that at ultra settings it pretty much goes to 100% GPU usage and max heat of around 82 degrees. It also makes my graphics card much much louder than any other game I've played recently.

My most recent other game that I've played a ton of was Tomb Raider and Ryse: Son of Rome (don't judge, loved that game) and both of those at max settings and 1440p 144hz didn't make my 780ti max out usage and temp.

Please don't encourage me to upgrade to a Titan X...(I'm already checking the site for stock every day but trying to resist until 980ti or Pascal)...

Anyways, my question was how is the game for you and what graphics card are you using? Any other fans on the forum enjoying the game?

Edit - I've used MSI Afterburner to adjust the fan profile so it's less noisy but it's balance between noise and heat at this point

My 290x with VSR at 1440p, max with no problems. And at 1080p it doesn't even break a sweat on max.

And the game is awesome. I can't get off of it. Since buying a Hotas i don't want to stop playing ever!

Can't max it out at 4k on single 290x. Gets a bit stutters in resource extraction sites max (excluding msaa)

Here's hoping amd sorts crossfire for the game soon.

As for temps... Mine are water cooled.

It can be great fun as a game, but often quite infuriating too.

I really want to get back into the game, problem is through out beta I used head tracking along with a hotas, now that I no longer have the head tracking, it broke :(, and don't want to splash out more money on a replacement when VR is so close, I just can't get back into it without head tracking.

LOL, I know that feeling. I've only been playing since it came out on Steam and so far only on mouse and keyboard so ordered a HOTAS on Friday but with the Easter holiday, it won't get here until tomorrow.

It still amazes me how computer games drive me to buy so much hardware...new joystick, new monitor, new graphics card..you'd almost think they do it on purpose ;)

Not sure what's causing the issues with my 780ti, will try playing at 120hz to see if that makes a difference.

wow...head tracking...that's another level...

Will let you know tonight.

Please do, looking forward to seeing how others are getting on with it. It's unfortunate it doesn't have a benchmark included.

Twin GTX 670 4GB's , 1440p @ 120hz no problems. Air cooled cards

Nice but then again SLI 670's should outpeform a 780ti...

I'm learning that very quickly...frame shift drive is strange to get used after my last space game being EVE where it was just a matter of aligning

My dad has one of the £40 ED trackers and it's awesome, takes the game to a whole new level! I haven't got round to getting one yet but used his and i was amazed. Paired with his X55 it's epic!!

Smooth as butter on CF 7950 Boost (1100/1350) @ 2560 x 1440 (27")

Oh yeah, the game is simply awesome too, just as good as the old BBC Version / Spectrum 48K version. - Yes I'm Old. :-)

Everything maxed out @ 5790 by 1080 triple screen on a GeForce 980. No matter how busy it gets in a conflict zone fps doesn't drop and more importantly game stays silky smooth.

To the post above disable crossfire as it hurts performance as no profile works and forcing it only makes it worse.

Trackir was made for this game it just makes Elite play astounding.

ED runs happily at max at 2560 x 1440 on a u2711 on 290x with reasonable temps when undocked around 70 and up to 82-84 when docked.
Next I gotta unpack the oculus dk2 and see how that runs now I've got used to flying with the warthog!

It runs ok on my R9 285 at 3440x1440 (better than I expected actually), as you would imagine I do need to dial the settings back a bit and at a resource extraction site I average around 40fps and this will dip to around 30 at times, depending on what is going on, I have reduced environmental detail slightly to achieve this and a few other bits and bobs. Ship detail and lighting is all at the highest though.

It ran a solid 'limited' 60 fps on my previous 1920x1200 display but now with this ultrawide it has shown where the 285s limits are.

Playing this on a 7990 @ 4k at max. Stutters when jumping but it seems even the most powerful of cards (red & green) do this. Rest of the game is awesome.

Just read the headtracking stuff _ (I'm on it)

780ti sli, no problems with playing at 2560 x 1440, DSR from 4k. at 60hz.

Look Great, does get a little noisy in the stations though.

I don't play the game to be honest, but here are my results on release.

Test run video

"I used the High preset for all resolutions which is the highest available quality setting. The Anti-Aliasing method used in High is SMAA, I disabled Bloom and prompted for a slightly higher FOV value than the preset."

The game was very smooth in general. But I haven't tried the station.
