Elite Dangerous - how is your graphics card handling this game and at what settings?

I had that on an AMD card once all cards have wildly different OC capabilities if it cannot manage factory OC RMA it back. Seen a few posts about Elite needing downclocking on 980s, don't forget although Elite not hugely graphical it still puts your card under huge load. My 980 manages huge stable OC and never crashes.

So are you saying Elite places such a strain on some cards (in this 980's) that they thermal throttle and downclock? That sound more like a cooling issue on the card itself rather then a issue with the game.

Nothing to do with my or anybody else's 980's everything to do with the patch release.
This is a work around that works for many 970 and 980 users who have had the same issue. All of whom had OC cards.

Frontier are looking at it based on the testing I did and sent to them. They emailed me back acknowledging it and saying they hope to have a fix soon.
Also my card has no thermal or OC issues, far from it.
The fact it never had a crash until the patch say volumes.

Also ED is just not a high GPU usage game at 1080p I will be lucky to get 60% usage in all situations, including in space stations, which is the most GPU heavy part of the game.

I stand corrected but strange that it only effects some 980 users mine is factory overclocked and then a fistful more and have no issues.

I have started to assemble parts for my big upgrade this year, but its all based on release date of Skylake,

so do I buy game now or wait for new rig>

It would run like ass on that rig I'm afraid

the fps readings should use the lowest common denominator which is inside the space station. at max settings in 1080p a single 980 was fine at stock but an overclock was even better @ 120hz.

at 4k/60 a single 980 doesn't cut it in max settings (even at 1550/2000) it's a slide show inside the station at times and I needed a second card to cut the mustard. sli scales ok and even then it dips below 60fps.
