In CvG, David Braben has stated that he's 'working' on two separate new Elite games, OK they may be only design ideas at the moment but hell, any news of a possible new Elite game is good.

The first is mainly a single player with a small multiplayer element, but the truly awesome news is that there may be the thing all us Elite junkies have been craving............a full Elite based MMO!

Oh great, so he hasn't actually gotten anywhere in the past 4 years or so since the last time he said he was considering a multiplayer verision.

Don't hold your breath.

I had hoped that Frontier Developments may have sprung a suprise on us with regards to an Elite sequel. Thats not to be, but im glad that they have at least broken the silence and i guess i'll just need to wait a few more years.

About time there was some noise from DB, albeit not a lot..

I loved Elite 2 frontier.. Hope he gets his finger out and starts something soon.

I would like it to be as simple as Frontier, not like eve, where its all buttons and complicated stuff.. That was the best thing about Frontier. Dead easy to use. Buy stuff, set destination, take off, arrive, shoot some one, dock, sell. Repeat Oh and explore.. really good fun..

I hope it does come to fruition, you couldnt get me off Elite when i was younger i had the game for the C64, Amstrad cpc464, AtariiST, and finally Amiga. like droolinggimp said though not too complicated

I played Elite on it's first format, the good ol' BBC B Microcomputer and it was cracking. I still clearly remember the ECM noise and how the first essential purchase was always the docking computer because docking was H.A.R.D.

In my case it was the Acorn Electron. Those sound effects were so cool. I bet they're on the net somewhere you know.

As long as its done properly, i loved frontier but if it was multiplayer it would've suffered from serious balancing issues.

Case in point: freelancer, once you got the best ship with the best weapons you could nuke everything in the game.

What i'd like to see is big ships that have a weakness for small fast ones, enabling you to have your own ship and still compete at the top level. In frontier it was all about getting the big imperial ships and stocking it with the biggest laser/2000 missiles.

I dont play EVE but i'd like it to be simpler from what i've heard, but with more instant playability like freelancer.

I player Frontier to death on my Amiga 1200, ended up with a Panther (I think it was called that) with uber-lasers. Whenever I got attacked by pirates I used to just lock on to them and hit fast forward to ram them.
it got too easy, plus I hit a wall with trying to rank up as an Imperial member.
They kept giving me assassinations which i'd fail because the target wouldn't turn up.
Very annoying.

eve is carp for one reason it's all click a button and watch your ship shoot it's self. What we need is x3 but on-line only. true space fps with all the trading and mining as well.

Well I don’t agree on Eve is crap but take a look at Vendetta online. It’s a MMORPG based on reaction speed over skills points. Its like X3 but online only.

Elite 4 would be my most looked forward game ever. I even have the rare 400meg+ CD version of Elite 3. Not the 3meg disk version most people seem to play. One of the only games I will never unstill..

I wish someone would fix all the bugs in frontier and redo it for modern machines/winxp... id pay 30quid for it!

You need Elite 3 First Encounters with that err what’s it called. JJEF something that lets you play in windows you can even alter the resolution. Will check the name when I get home.

I wonder how many people know frontier was only the 2nd of the 3 games.

thanks :), downloading now...

And eve is carp, you don't even earn your xp you just have to wait for the clock.. It sucks IMO off course.

:( only 13 players online..

I don't mean to be Mr glass half empty or anything but I think Elite is one of those games whose sequal or whatever can never live up to the fans nostalgic and incredibly high expecations :(

Hmm yes the graphics could do with updating :D

Screenshot from an Amiga emulator which err runs faster than my 040 accelerator ever did

I've tried some pc 3D variants of the game, though they're no match for the original.

I bought X3 and the gameplay is such a mess though the graphics are great.
