Trailer has been released...

Set in the year 2159, where the very wealthy live on a man-made space station while the rest of the population resides on a ruined Earth, a man takes on a mission that could bring equality to the polarized worlds.

Really looking forward to this, loved District 9, I hope Blomkamp can knock out more films as good.

IMDB Link for more info.

I've been excited about this ever since it was announced. District 9 is a fantastic film..

Shame the Halo film Blomkamp was hoping to make fell through, although maybe that was for the best. He said he would never have had full control, so couldn't have done with it what he would have wanted. Pity when you have a talented director who's ideas get pushed to the side because the suits want it made a different way. Alien 3 springs to mind.

Matt Damon though. :/ With the exception of Saving Private Ryan and The Departed (which to be fair he isn't the lead) I cannot think of anything good he's done.

Elysium, why does that name sound familiar?

Was it the name of the spaceship in Pandorum? Is this linked to that?

Yes, that's correct. Not linked to Pandorum though. Elysium is taken from Greek I think and has something to do with the afterlife.

So the film would suddenly look appealing if someone else was in the lead role? :/

I saw a 10 minute preview of this last year at Comicon, along with a panel dicussion with Blomkamp. It looked amazing. A real interestign twist for the sci-fi genre. I'm only suprised that it's taken this long to be released.

Good Will Hunting?
Dogma?
The Talented Mr Ripley?
Ocean's Eleven?
The Bourne Movies, esp the first.

Bournes are average at best and all the others are films that are held up by the other actors, except Dogma which is probably just good Kevin Smith writing as Affleck is awful too.
Maybe I should have said, I've never seen him be a good lead actor in anything.

Without knowing anything about it's meaning I'm guessing the link to the afterlife is correct, as it is mentioned in Gladiator by Maximus during a speech to the soldiers at the start.

I would guess the word 'Elysium' is used because in this film the rich are living in a so called paradise after what appears to be, hell on Earth. Similar thing with Pandorum; people leaving a dying planet, heading to what they hope to be, a new beginning.
