I have to say I'm really not that exciting about this, beyond scale (read: budget) it doesn't really seem to be offering anything other than bludgeoning its audience with RELEVANT POLITICAL MESSAGES.
The setting is rather uninspiring as well, overpopulated area for the poor people versus idyllic haven for the rich. The plot also seems to be driven by magic cure all machine which is basically a sarcophagus from Stargate.
I guess for me it's just not enough fantasy, District 9 managed to have its very political overtone not be overbearing because "Hey look, squid faced aliens" and all that business with the metamorphosis. I'm just not sure Elysium will have a worthy equivalent to justify its quite obvious (and to be honest, seemingly rather obnoxious) messages.
Its not going to be helped by Matt Damon either, the least charismatic actor in history.
