Elysium

New trailer makes it look even more awesome. Must try not to get to excited about this, lest we be disappointed!

Yeah, I've got high hopes for this one. Hope I don't leave the theater feeling like I did after Prometheus.

I'm looking forward to this, it does seem to take a lot of cues from Battle angel alita in fact id go as far as to say that from the trailers the whole basic premise of the movie is from BAA.

James Cameron owns the rights to BAA and will hopefully be producing a movie in the not too distant future and i hope it isn't touted as a rip off with this coming first to screens as it is a fantastic series that i think would translate well to the big screen.

I have to say I'm really not that exciting about this, beyond scale (read: budget) it doesn't really seem to be offering anything other than bludgeoning its audience with RELEVANT POLITICAL MESSAGES.

The setting is rather uninspiring as well, overpopulated area for the poor people versus idyllic haven for the rich. The plot also seems to be driven by magic cure all machine which is basically a sarcophagus from Stargate.

I guess for me it's just not enough fantasy, District 9 managed to have its very political overtone not be overbearing because "Hey look, squid faced aliens" and all that business with the metamorphosis. I'm just not sure Elysium will have a worthy equivalent to justify its quite obvious (and to be honest, seemingly rather obnoxious) messages.

Its not going to be helped by Matt Damon either, the least charismatic actor in history.

Elysium, why does that name sound familiar?

It immediately made me think of the movie Gladiator.

"Three weeks from now, I will be harvesting my crops. Imagine where you will be, and it will be so. Hold the line! Stay with me! If you find yourself alone, riding in the green fields with the sun on your face, do not be troubled. For you are in Elysium, and you're already dead!"
