email from hm revenue and customs, is it legit?

Where did he mention an attachment?

If you read the quoted email it states in the final line, "Please submit the form attached to your email to confirm the refund."

The OP then goes on to explain the content of the form. Natural assumption is that an attachment has been opened or else the email would have stated, "Please submit the form enclosed in your email to confirm the refund."

OP has however cleared this matter up.......

If it's not in a brown envelope with proper details from them and of you on the letterhead then it's genuine.

Reply to it. You're going to miss out on Ј178.25 if you don't.

Hahahahaha

I've recieved an email from Winston Scammalot, asking me for my bank details, copy of passport, bills, driving license, signature, etc.

In return he has offered me 5 magic beans.

Is this a scam?

That's about one of the most blatent scam emails I've ever seen.

Also, people really shouldn't pay much notice to sender's email address. When email was designed a long time ago, I don't think anyone realised how much it would be abused like it is now, so there is no full proof system to stop emails from fake addresses. Anyone with a little bit of knowledge of how email works, can send an email from any address and name they choose.

Also, the suggestion of looking at the email header is all well and good if the person knows how emails and DNS works, but I don't think your average computer user is going to gain much worthwhile data from the headers. It's better to just use common sense when looking at the email.

And herein lies the fault with much of the human race. Common sense is a hard to come by quality these days.

P.S. - Your bank has just telephoned me to authorise me to manage your account on their behalf. I would be grateful if you could just email me your account number, sort code and 4 digit pin as the bank will never ask you for you pin, but I will....... ;)

Between this, the 3 get rich quick schemes and 2 Nigerian e-mail i've already replyed to this week i'm going to be a millionaire by this time next month.
