You give your employer your p45 a month and a half before you get paid.

They give all the needed details to HMRC.

You still get Emergency taxed!

I got Emergency Taxed £350!!!

It will probably happen for another month before my actual tax code goes through then il get a fat lump of money on my third months pay which would be great and all...

BUT RAGE!!!!!!:o:o:o

We really need to get our services up to scratch regarding taxes and what not in our beloved country.

I just needed a place to rant about tax as im sure a lot of you forumites hate tax in general.

Oh well... welcome to life am i right?

Yeah same for me this month at new job. Doesn't help that I was on BR for about 4 months at last job also! Think I'm owed some money back though, so all good :)

How do you know it wasn't your payroll department just being slow at sending the P45 off?

Oh, who am I kidding? HMRC have a backlog of letters for about 6-12 weeks.

Was your P45 from the current tax year? What tax code was stated on the P45 and was there any previous earnings/tax?

Yah for the current tax year and all that hoopla it was the most current p45 and was just given to me 2 days before with everything on it up to date etc etc.

Mypoint is emergency tax sucks *****.

I don't understand why your new employer didn't use the previous employment figures and tax code from the P45? Unless there was some form of problem with the information on it...

^^^^^ Dude HMRC is like a ****ty internet connectoin they lag with everything you will get it eventualy but it takes a little while to buffer before you get what you want.

My tax code WILL eventualy go through in a month or two but the point is even when you do it on time they somehow manage to be a bunch of divs.

Emergency tax makes me want to rub my dong against a cheese grater man its like jesus that 350 quid could have gone into a new tv or something str8 back into the economy.

Now they have stolen my money there probbably gonna give it to some women with 45 kids.

I'm failing to see how any of this is HMRC's fault.

Your P45 had your pay and tax from your last job, and your tax code on it. Your new employer should have used these details. If they have used a code different to that on your P45, then they are the ones at fault here.

So, what code was on your P45, and what code are your new employer using?

My tax code on my payslip is "BR" ie. Emergency tax.

They did all the paperwork with HMRC it just so happens it will probably be a month or two before i start actualy getting taxed the right amount.

This **** happens its not my employers fault.

I got emergency taxed for months when i started my job despite them having a recent, 2 day old P45

Im on the correct code now but still waiting for a refund

Ok, first things first, BR is NOT emergency tax. BR is Basic Rate tax.

There is actually no such thing as 'emergency tax', there is however the emergency code, which is the standard personal allowance operated on a week/month 1 (non-cumlative) basis.

All your new employer had to do was submit their part of your P45 to HMRC. They should not have changed your tax code at all from that shown on the P45, unless the P45 was from a previous tax year.

So, I repeat, what code was on you P45???
