Verstappen pit radio - Ok Max, that is P3. Hamilton didn't improve.

Verstappen - Was a **** lap. Ah ******. I went off at turn 3.

Horner - Hard luck Max, it's mighty close so it's going to be an interesting race tomorrow.
 
Norris radio - I'm sorry about that.... ********* My bad. I'm so sorry.

Pit - We qualified P7.

Norris - Ah ******.

Pit - Don't worry mate. The pace is there

Norris - I'm sorry we deserved much better. Yeah! Doesn't matter if the pace is there does it!

Think we need to bear in mind it's because Max dropped a couple of wheels in the grass rather than outright superior pace from Perez.

The other way to look at it, Max was only 0.05s back and had a small off during his lap.

Yes but the point is, he's almost as fast still even on a lap with a mistake. No point getting overexcited that Perez is matching Max for pace just yet - he's not.

So Perez did a better job then. In his second attempt.

To be fair it says more about he unsupported Gasly and weak Albon. First competent driver he's faced since Ric and he's been out qualified

Plus if Hamilton starts driving off into the distance and Perez isn't keeping up he'll almost certainly get the "Max is faster than you" treatment...

I'd expect to see Perez get into P1 on the softs to be fair, it'll be more about whether he can open a big enough gap to not drop back too far when he stops earlier

Pérez also made a mistake on his lap. But ultimately, in Quali, the ability to deliver the lap is the key skill.

Bottas put in his best performance in Q1, Norris dropped a couple of wheels over the line. Same story.

Personally I'm just glad to see this silliness about "only Max can drive that car" put to bed. Truth is, you put a better driver in the second seat and you get results.

Gap between Russell and Bottas - 0.363s
Gap between Bottas and Hamilton - 0.457s

Russell's time was on medium tyres too. :eek: :D

Bottas made a right hash of his Saturday.

His Q1 time was good enough for P4 in Q3
