Ive looked into this a little but would appreciate it from what you guys think it is, dont put links here, i want your opinions and what you think its all about. (I'm not emo but my job requires me to try understand what its all about)
cheers guys

This is probably more useful than the whole music history article, as the term nowadays has pretty much nothing to do with music. It's more to do with fashion, attitude and stereotyping. For example, Panic At The Disco are widely regarded as 'emo', yet i'd personally class their musical style as a kinda pop/rock/dance mashup. But just because they're a young band and have a young (alternative) following, they're branded as emo.

EDIT: Just realised you said no links... meh i added some thoughts. :p

If I see an emo, I don't know wether to laugh or hit them. They look weird, they dress weird, and act very weird.

Oh, and I believe they all hang out over at myspace.

Don't they often have their hair across one side of their face, so it covers their eye in some cases? Must make depth perception awkward :p . I have no strong opinions toward them otherwise.

it's a trend. simple as that. sure it's been around for a long time, but lately it's little more than a fashion trend which will go away soon enough. of course the hardcore emo's will stick with it, but it's going to die out as a mainstream thing.

some emos are emo as emo is seen as 'cool' these days. My clothing style is a mix of emo and trendy and I listen to a lot of 'emo' music but I don't class myself as emo.

so whats your idea of sombody who is emo, not just what they wear but what there thinking is what im trying to get at.

In my job, it means Emergency Machine Off (EMO has been used as the Emergeny off abbreviation for more or less for the last 50 years in the manufacturing industry)

But obviously - it doesn't mean that in your situation ;)
