Ive looked into this a little but would appreciate it from what you guys think it is, dont put links here, i want your opinions and what you think its all about. (I'm not emo but my job requires me to try understand what its all about)
cheers guys

Since you said EMO and not Emo, I'm going to say that they made some decent DI boxes and their power distribution panels weren't too shabby.

Emo bands; typically untalented, generic and sing about how miserable they are, bands including, but not limited to;

Wednesday 13th
Hawthorne Heights
Fallout Boy
Funeral for a Friend
My Chemical Romance
AFI
As I Lay Dying
Alexisonfire
Panic!!11!1!! At the disco

You've also got trashy indie/emo styled bands like

Maximo Park
The Kooks

All these bands are untalented. People who listen to them think they're 'better' than other people, i.e people with normal/good music taste.

Don't they often have their hair across one side of their face, so it covers their eye in some cases? Must make depth perception awkward...

lolol, that made me chuckle.

lol funny post. Maximo Park? The Kooks? I'm not a huge fan of either but calling them 'emo' simply because you dont like them is just madness. Or maybe it's the 'proper' use of the term nowadays? Anything you dont like "meh, it's emo".

How exactly do you class emo music? I read its supposed to be very emotional, but isn't a lot of music emoitional?

Here rises the problem. Bands like FOB and PATD might sing about some 'emo' sounding stuff, but then again -- doesnt every band? In contrast the music itself barely sounds like 'proper' emo would. FOB are more pop/punk than anything and as i said it's probably easier to describe PATD as a pop/dance/rock mashup; as they use synths and drum machines a lot. I cant speak for the other bands jidh007 listed because i havent heard any of their stuff (apart from FFAF who'd i'd class as i dunno, mainstream emo/rock, AFI i'd call a goth/punk band and My Chemical Romance who probably should just curl up in a ball and die ;):p)

I hope not they were one of my favourite bands when i was 19ish

When i was young i didnt call them Emos i called them "***** ***** . that loses somethign in the translation but you get the idea.

Its such an american term as well.

There will always be emo types just a different name will apply. So ill stick with... "***** *****s

There were people in my halls who used to sit in their rooms listening to Radiohead, going on about how "deep" and "meaningful" the lyrics are, and cutting themselves.

If u are still cutting yourself at 18/19 then you are a complete tool nothing to do with being emo.

Teenangst usually dries up by that age.

EMO: A label/scene/genre of crap music

Its just this categorising BS that youths seem to be obsessed with, like Mod's and Rockers.

As I lay dying are certainly not Emo but Metalcore/Hardcore, I would certainly not put them in the same category as all those other crap bands! lol

I propose a new category - "crap" - who's with me?

Either;

a) you're trolling people
b) you have, quite literally, no clue. Proof? Well, i'm assuming that 'Wednesday 13th' is relating to 'Wednesday 13'?

If so, how is he emo?

Name-dropping bands doesn't make you cool. Especially when you don't know what you're talking about.

I find it funny how you youngsters label things and instantly dislike them where I got this email two weeks ago off a 40 year old who hears music for what it is -

Eyup Dave,

Have you heard this, I think its awesome, the album (the black parade) is amazing too its like queen meets green day.

Hahahaha what?!
As I lay dying are metal, and are ******* awesome!

Edit: MCR and panic etc are just pop tbh :/

hmmm apparently i class as an emo due to musical taste. i dont wear eyeliner or black clothes though. and i have friends.

however i do like fallout boy, panic, and MCR. as well as bands like jimmy eat world and lacuna coil...

emo is such a crap genre made up by someone.... theres rock, metal, classical, pop, punk, rap and soul. and thats about it... anything else is just made up.

How can there have been this many replies and still Jimmy Eat World have not been mentioned.

Jimmy Eat World may not have started Emo, but they are certainly regarded as one of the biggest Emo bands around.

Panic! are a very good band who I really like, but they are certainly not emo!

Also why has this link not come up either:

Fallout boi, panic! and MCR = Pop
Jimmy eat world = Rock
Lacuna coil = Some kind of metal surely

None of that is emo.

IMO I suppose.

Edit: JEW are not goddamn emo :(

The Kooks

Quite OT, but I can't stand the kooks and all those new bands. They all look the same, and sing the same. Curly hair, tight trousers, funny voice. I get mixed up between them and Razorlight, and those other new ones.
Then, that brat from McFly started copying them with the curly hair.

What's with the curly hair

I've just done a bit of listening and I don't mind making myself look a right ****.
These are the views of a very old rocker and to be taken as such.

Wednesday 13th - Couldn't find any but I remember this band dress up daft
Hawthorne Heights - modern punk like Green Day
Fallout Boy - Modern punk
Funeral for a Friend - Modern punk
My Chemical Romance - Modern punk with some trimmings
AFI - modern punk with some thrashy overtones
As I Lay Dying - My kind of metal (Slayer, the Haunted etc)
Alexisonfire - modern punk with a bit of thrash
Panic!!11!1!! At the disco - Is this McFly?

So now I'm really confused because if these are EMO bands then they take in all kinds of rock music.
