Is it me or is it glaringly obvious that these could well be the weapons of the future and that we can't really protect against them? Think how destructive an EMP bomb would be in a big city, Terrabytes of data loss but without loss of life would cause massive widespread disruption and cause billions of pounds to be lost, I'm pretty sure you could bring down a plane as well with a focussed EMP beam?

Something to think about:eek:

Naah just electromagnetically seal your important stuff. bomb is useless.

Even my hi-fi speakers at home are electromagnetically sealed ..

Besides -- a lot of data isn't held on magnetic media nowadays anyway... and all important data has off-site backups.

It's not an issue I reckon ...

BTW do you really live in the lakes? That is the nicest place in the country you lucky, lucky person ...

EMP will fry SSD too if that's what you're referring to.

Except data is backed up elsewhere to prevent accidental loss, however the plane thing sounds about right, I think the military already have things like this though.

Well with a grounded lead box yes... but not everyone has one of those and last time I looked, data centres weren't lead lined.

If your data is that important then do something about it. If you need to protect against EMP then you might as well have multiple backup sets sent all over the world because trust me EMP is far less destructive than a large Nuke would be.

Are you also protected against a targeted malicious attack with a sledge hammer? :p

Would only be able to take planes out the sky if the controls in the cockpit are electronically connected to the flaps. I wouldn't even notice an EMP in the planes i fly :p
