**EMPIRE TOTAL WAR**

Doh, had my first ever "insufficient video memory" crash on my first ever land battle after this patch! :(

I'm really starting to get put off with it now, the patches don't seem to be doing anything. I'm still waiting ages when I select a fleet too

Yeah it does seem that some people are encountering new problems. It appears that for most people it either didnt fix their problems, or they werent having problems in the first place and still arent.

All very hit and miss. Wish I could explain why mine is running fine, at least that might be some help to you, but I honestly havent got the faintest idea why.

I found the worst crashes were when it was the cpu's turn because there is nothing you can do to stop it. When i gave up i controlled the americas and all but the south east of the european map about to take on the marathan confed when everytime it was their turn the game just ctd.

I only got that far by luck and reloading so many save games to rectify what crashes i could on my faction such as the selecting fleet and army bugs. This game really has been released without enough time to sort out it's kinks and having done that once with med2 i really did expect more this time.

Simple answer for me is that CA won't be getting another penny of my money until the games are in the bargain basket and have been out long enough for all patches to have been released shame, really is such potential and so badly wasted.

I wish I could explain my lack of problems as well so everyone could have as much fun as me. Even the mods I had installed are working just fine as well.

In fact, my system is running even smoother at the moment - I'm not sure if it's because I chose a new campaign with the Ottoman Empire and they just interact less or what, but I'm not complaining - apart from the fact that Darth Mod made everything more aggressive. Dagestan and Persia tore me to pieces and took four provinces off me (the last of which was a tribute in a desperate attempt to make peace and give me a break). It's taken me a further 15 turns to recover my lands and move into Persia-proper. Had some really titanic battles as well. Really enjoying this campaign. I'll probably end up pushing into India, rather than Europe, but I might tickle Russia just for a few battles, as they might be fun seeing how my troops manage a European army :)

No problems on mine, no crashes, slight pause when clicking on ships but literally 0.5s just enough to be noticable. Now if only my graphics card wasn't a crappy ATI 1950 :)

I have had some awesome play on my campaign tonight using Darths mod (in combination with several others), I agree he has really given some ooomph to the AIs aggression. Looks like he is well on his way to reaching the levels of AI modding that he achieved with Rome and Medieval 2.

All it seems he's done is change the AI's priorities, but that leads to other problems, like the AI not bothering to protect their capitals and generally being more aggressive, but still a bit thick (like the two units of line infantry that charged 1400 of my men). Mind you, the aggressive bit makes it more exciting and certainly more of a challenge up front. I'm less than 20 years into my current campaign using Darth Mod - we'll see where it goes :D

Combine the Darthmod with Quixotes mod + Slower Mod + having it on 4 turns per year instead of 2 and its much much better :D

Great, since the patch I get long delays when selecting fleets, and battle sounds just go missing when they feel like it!!!!

and it worked fine before

Hmm the patch has fixed clicking on navies a bit, still not had any CTDs.

Can anyone tell me how to mod the game for more turns per years, because by the time I've tech'd my way to what infantry should be the game is practically over.

1700-1799 is far too short a game, and its starting to show for me.

you using more than 1 school, as i found halfway through my first paly that you can multi research. I found getting lisbon and madrid quickly improved my rate of research 3x schools. Also build observatories as they give you more gentlemen

Yeah I didnt like the game being just 200 turns, I found that it meant I essentially had to blitzkrieg all the time in order to win on world domination. I dont like blitzing in my strategy games, so I changed it to 4 turns a year for a total of 400 turns.

Theres a couple of ways you can do it, you can go to twcenter and download the 4 turns mod. Alternatively if you feel confident about it you can download a hex editor and edit the file yourself and set it to whatever number of turns you want (though I have found 4 to be the best some people are even playing on 12 turns a year)

After the patch I noticed that my "AI turns taking forever" bug was fixed, so thinking all was well I started playing my Russian campaign again, then after a kickass naval battle the game CTD'ed.

Before that my Ottoman campaign CTD'ed as well.

So the game is still a waste of effort at the moment.

Tomb you are a member of quite an elite group lol because everyone i know 20 plus at this moment in time that has the game has had nothing but crashes and thats on hardware covering just about every maker. After going through this with med2 when that came out i decided i wouldn't waste much time trying to get this to work if it didn't and will simply bin it till quite a few patches have been released.

I just wish they would enable you to play and patch the game without the interfering steam as once that applies a bad patch your weither stuck with it or have to wait till they release another patch. Much prefer the traditional system where you donwload each patch and install it yourself thus being able to roll back one patch if it does more damage then good.

All in all for me and for everyone i know this game had such prmose and yet again from CA has proved to be completely annoying. Next time they release a total war game i will do the only thing we as customers can do not buy their game and wait for longtime until it's a fiver or something but they will not rip me off again.

Same here not one single problem with this game at all.
I've had a few CTDs, but nothing game-breaking. Had a couple bugs irritate me, like the trade bug and there's a couple ports in my Ottoman Campaign which I know take ten seconds or so to access, but otherwise I'm gold wit this game. I'm running a few mods as well which are running fine. I don't have the greatest rig, running it on XP with 2gig of RAM, but it looks good too. I heard a few people claiming that having more than 2gig of RAM is causing issues but obviously I can't comment on that point!

I hope they sort out the game soon so everyone else can enjoy it.

Dont know how elite I am :) But there has been 3 threads on twcenter for people who havent had major problems (AI issues aside), and 2 on the official boards, so maybe I am not all that elite :D

The worst thing about it is that it all seems almost random as to whether you have troubles or not. Doesnt seem to be any logic to it. I mean, here I sit having played almost every day since I got it at release, and I havent crashed even once.

So, maybe my system specs you might think, but no..my specs dont seem all that different to anyone elses. Maybe my drivers, again no, I've seen people who use the same drivers as me having problems, and I've seen people who use the same drivers as me not having problems. Maybe its something to do with the 14 mods I use, dont know...I guess it could be something wrong with the standard settings and something in one or more of the mods I am using fixes that, but I dont think thats all that likely.

I wish I could help with why I havent had any crashes, but I just dont have a clue. All I know is that I have now played 3 grand campaigns, 2 as prussia and 1 as france (which is my current game) and I havent CTD at all. Why though is a mystery.

It was actually like that for me back on my old system when I had all the graphics on low. Since the last couple of patches and a better computer and hey, CTDs all over the place especially after naval battles, but maybe that's because I never bothered to play the naval battles before.
