**EMPIRE TOTAL WAR**

How can I get rid of the patch?
Reinstall and stop it from updating?

Dont think theres a rollback option, so yeah you would have to reinstall and just not let it update. I play with my steam in offline mode all the time, when I see a patch that seems to do better than the mods I already use then I will put steam back into online mode.

I guess the economy tweaks are to stop you steam rolling places when you start to really get going, and to make the game more of a challenge.

I've found that its okay but you just need to disband any large standing armies you have in quiet theatres, and manage the armies you do have better instead of just placing big stacks all over the place.

I get the point of the patch, but with everyone declaring war left right and centre how can you only manage with a miserly army spread all across the world??

Napoleon's army was about 400,000 strong with hundreds of cannon and he could bearly keep control of europe.

Thats not quite correct, france had a standing army of 2,500,000 not including national guard and drafts and allies.

The uk had quarter of a million men or there abouts and had complete control of the worlds oceans.

So really, CA have really ballsed this up because this was the age of massive standing armies and battles the like of which the world has not seen since.

That number seems way too high, I've never heard it that big. What's your source for that?

I was referring to La Grande Armée in particular.

Mind you, Waterloo was a battle involving almost 200,000 men. I have a pretty high spec machine, but I dont think I would particularly like trying to do a battle on ETW involving 200,000 men. My PC would probably burn a hole in my carpet :)

If it helps there are lots and lots of mods which change the economic costs in ETW.

While true sizes of battles would be hard to do i am sure there is a way for us to have bigger battles then we do now but then again the ai would need upping a few notches. Economy sucks bigtime controlling all the americas and india and starting in europe i am now having to reduce my army to overcome a 45k deficit absolutely stupid.

This is not challenging it is just crap one minute you have your economy sorted you build to what you can support and then the game using some measure that only it understands cuts whatever and you go from havinga surplus to having a huge deficit. Wouldn't be so bad but given how few regions some of my enemies own and how many stacks they have i am obviously the only victim of this gordon brown type of economic management.

although the patch is save game compatible they recommend starting a new campaign which will avoid you suddenly going into a massive deficit. It might also effect how the AI builds up too.

Well that's helpful as Steam gives you so many options for updating :(

Is there anyway of updating to proir the patch? Is there standalone downloads anywhere?

Napoleon wasnt in control of all of frances forces, there were I think 3 or 4 armies figting on various fronts, at various times.

Several different sources in that link.

France was one of the most populous countries of the time, with something twice to three times as many people as the uk, had just come out of the revolution and virtually every man and boy had a gun and was conscripted.

I binned all my save games and started this current campaign from scratch with the new patch as i read what they said about savegame compatability.

I'm still finding the game great fun, mind you I am not playing vanilla total war, I'm still using the mods (updated) that I've been using since nearly the first week of release.

Experience taught me long ago that the total war games are always far far superior when using mods (for me at least)

Sure thing,

These are the mods I currently have installed (although I have modified some aspects of the mods to suit my desires)

Darthmod + Imperial Splendour - Best used together by creating your own tailor made mod from the two if you have the know-how

PIPmod

Smoke mod

Turns per year mod - if you like longer campaigns like me

Infua Music mod

Slower mod - Again best to tailor the mod to your own wants.

British Army graphics mod

Russian army graphics mod

Prussian army graphics mod

French army graphics mod (incorporating post-revolution uniforms)

French empire mod

Spanish army graphics mod

United Provinces graphics mod

LOD4 graphics mod

Leather UI mod

Fife and Drums mod and Sound FX mod (same guy who did Smoke mod)

Regalia of Nations mod

Some aspects of "A Proper Empire" mod

I'm also using the devmode camera so that I can zoom way back from the battlefield and go inside buildings with the camera etc. Combined the mods I am using change almost every aspect of the game mechanics, unit costs, appearance, sounds, economy, unit balance, unit sizes, new unit types, weapon ranges, weapon damages, campaign movement costs, battle movement costs etc etc

That last patch is shocking, I can't click on any naval units now and I've gone from making £70K+ a turn to £3K a turn. Its ruined it for me, it was buggy to start with but I could get by, I will never buy another CA game :(

I'm annoyed as it automatically updated as well, grrrrrrrrrr steam.
