Is it still the case you can 1 or 2 week self certify then get a doctors note for more?

Okay, so 7 days self cert, then two weeks doctors or more if he is unable to work his usual duties.

I once broke my leg. I was in hosp over the weekend, had Monday and Tuesday as sick leave and was back in the office on Weds on crutches. It was horrible and hurt like hell but I had only joined that new job two weeks earlier so couldn't risk losing it.
