Enableing ACHI mode.

My PC has always been in Legacy IDE mode, do i need to reinstall Windows to enable it - or can i just turn it on?

Is there much difference in performance between the 2?

I tri this when dualbooting Vista with XP and it was a faff.

As far as I'm aware there is a registry key to change in the OS before you change this mode, I can't remember what it was but either way it didn't work for me. Changing the mode in the BIOS will just bluescreen Windows.

No noticeable difference. AHCI does allow NCQ but in a desktop environment the I/O queue depth shouldn't get to the point where NCQ can help.
