With the price drops for A64 X2(939)s, I'm tempted to upgrade, although I've read AMD are due to release "efficient" X2s, which run cooler on less power.

Will be the revised X2's be for AM2 only, or 939 aswell?

If the current batch of 939s are the last, I'll need to move fast! ;)

Im sticking with 939 for another year, then Ill do a total system upgrade. Just bought a x2 4800+ to keep me going from this weeks offers.

All S939 production is being killed off, all the single cores have been stopped iirc, not sure about the X2s but I doubt we'll see any new CPUs or Energy Efficient revisions.

I'm sticking out on 939 too. Selling at these rates would be a shame. :(

The 939 have been the most enjoyable rig Ive owned, have not had one proble (touch wood) as my main machine is used for games I wasn't even going to upgrade the processor until I did a complete overhaul but hey, you know what its like when the store comes a calling.

Also, wanted to see first hand dual core as Ive never owned one.

I have my eye on the X2 4400+, but my 1GB of "Geil Value" won't do it justice so I'll need to buy 2GB "G.Skill DDR ZX PC3200" aswell and hope it doesn't have any issues with my Gigabyte K8NXP-9. Else I may aswell go the conroe route :D

same here

imo i wont be upgrading as over ddr 500 is fast enough for a lot of games provided you have a good system you compliment it

939 based sytem imo have a lot to give still in a way stopping producing of a popular product is basically forcing us to upgrade when some people are quite happy with current pc they have

take my bro pc for example he has a asus 875 canterwood i think it called with 478skt 3ghz prescott 2 gb ram 1.5terra bytes of hard drives gainward golden sample 7800 gs+ agp which is a 7900gt his should last a while still

i like to keep mine up to date but there comes a time when you have to slow down and buy the best older stuff out like this agiera cards when a new revision arrive the 1st one come down it price so i buy that

nothing today is really slow :)

Im Sckt939. Im buying a new CPU, X2 3800+. To go dual core. If I was upgrade to AM2 I would need new memory on top of the new mobo. Stops becoming cost affective....

Anyway I heard the difference between DDR2 and DDR memory is minimal

How do the kids say it now-a-days....

Skt939 4tw!1!!1! :p

Anyways, quick question, with the X2 CPU's being a really good price atm, would people suggest I upgrade or keep my single core? I want to keep the system going for awhile longer and everywhere I look now I keep seeing dual-core this dual-core that.

So I currently run (see. sig) would for example the X2 4400+ perhaps clocked to 2.5Ghz give me similar performance, if not better? Or am I better keeping my current CPU as it's quite highly clocked? I don't want to waste money!

Thanks!

Definately. My Opteron 144 sits at 2.8GHz on stock volts and will push to 3GHz maybe more with a volt mod which as far as I'm concerned (couple with a X1900) is more then enough for the forseeable future! Even moreso as its all running on air in a silent case...

ROFL! Ive still got a 939 Venice 3000 (not even OC'd) and that seems to be running everything fine at the moment, however, i am just about to shell out on another 1GB of memory. :D

even when 939's are scarce they will be available 2 hand so im staying with this platform as too me it been more crash free than all my other systems my old intel system i had also crash atleast 1 a day which i cant say the same for mine

top ddr memory can beat ddr2 stuff :)

I still keep having this dilemma with AMD vs Intel. I would really love to own a Conroe as it is a great cpu, but at the end of the day im still really happy with my 165 Opty on the 939 platform. For all the extra outlay (cpu, mobo, ram) which would cost a few quid, I just cant see it being a worthwhile upgrade just yet. I would really like to see what AMD plans to battle agaist Conroe with, probably socket AM3. . . by the time that is out I should have saved up plenty of money to upgrade. :D

Lol well your Intel system wasn't very well looked after then. It's hardly ever the CPU which causes system crashes so that comment is a bit biased.

I've only just moved to 939 (see sig) and it's probably the best value for money platform I've ever owned with excellent overclocking potential. Whenever I decide to upgrade (when games start supporting multi-core) there will still be some 939 X2s out there (used).
