Lol well your Intel system wasn't very well looked after then. It's hardly ever the CPU which causes system crashes so that comment is a bit biased.

it could have been anything im just saying im having a lot better experience since ive gone over to amd :)

Im sticking with 939 for another year, then Ill do a total system upgrade. Just bought a x2 4800+ to keep me going from this weeks offers.

Like wise. The 4800+ X2 will good enough for me until i have to upgrade.

opteron 148 @ 2.9Ghz
2 gig corsair 3200 XMS
X1800XT 512mb

sorted for the next 12 months at least, will just keep bumping the CPU up every time i see one going cheap.

This list of dual-core supporting games -

http://forumz.tomshardware.com/games/Dual-Core-supported-games-ftopict94969.html

- includes BF2. It's a short list though currently, and games that don't support dual-core could end up running slower if the individual cores were slower than your opty.

Socket 939 is still very good, im lucky and have an intel and amd rig, but the daul core chips are a must (AM2) my 4 gig athlon struggles multitasking badly, single cores are a bit poo nowadays. I intend to get a daul core amd chip when i see one dirt cheap

Im keeping my 939 for as long as possible until the games cant play at all or they look really terrible and run 10fps :) which will probably happen for a good while yet. Ive pretty much bought all the performance increase parts for my computer so i know ill have to get a conroe or whatever is out in a years time.

My next rig is already mapped out on what i want:
Vista premium
quad core cpu ( dual core minimum)
cross fire

Im keeping mine for a while, infact until kentsfeild, by then the mobos will have matured and conroes will be cheaper.

I have to say that for gaming my modest AMD3500 (939) combined with my new Connect X1900XT and 2gig ram is running everything maxed, albeit on my 1280 x 1024 monitor. I think that like others 939 should tick over for a while yet, although it is probably worth keeping an eye out for hot deals dual core deals. ;)

best way that get the old top end stuff when the price come cheap doesnt mean there useless not these days

in the days of a s3 trio then i wouldnt be interested becouse technology has move so fast even the "old use to be" top level equipment ok for the gaming here and there, mix that with new bits and you have a good system :)

its end of line but it hasnt suddenly stopped working , you see some peeps still looking for socket A stuff, I guess peeps will look for 939 stuff for a few years yet, its harder to stay on top of the game with gpus though :)

Nope, I just bought a 939 mobo. Asus. Quality board. I recommend them. The reason I didnt buy AM2. Perhaps its the 2 gig of DDR memory I have. And the fact that at the moment AM2 and DDR2 dont make much difference on the A64... Not so much as woth ditching 2 gig of memory for. It has PCI-E, and is dual core capable.

Yup, I canna really belive the how unlucky AMD were, their upgrade path sucked for a gamer (after already waiting 18 months), in conjunction with Intel releasing a killer chip.

We are lucky that Asrock saw the gap in the market for the buget upgrade!

to be quite honest
Socket A for the win. as its the only real choise for men of today.
still running my SKT A rig (or was, untill the lightning ate it) with a 6600GT, took everything I though at it and didn't miss a beat.
