End of the line, for 939?

Just thought I'd share my recent upgrade experiences. I currently have a pretty ancient (relatively speaking!) P4 Northwood running @ 3.4Ghz. I was going to switch to Conroe but worked out the upgrade would cost in the region of £375 or so (that's going for the entry level processor). I picked up a quality 939 Asus motherboard, an X2 4200 and an Arctic Freezer 64 Pro for £170. I can keep my existing RAM for the new system. I really don't think the extra £200 or so for Conroe is worth it. I just hope I'll notice the upgrade from my old P4 which still gives a good account of itself in games (I'm running a 7800GT).

its end of line but it hasnt suddenly stopped working , you see some peeps still looking for socket A stuff, I guess peeps will look for 939 stuff for a few years yet, its harder to stay on top of the game with gpus though :)

I recently sold my nf7-s board and trusty 2500 barton on that auction site for nearly £100 not much less than i paid for them 3 years or so ago.The mobo went to Greece and the cpu went to Italy ! I even had people from the US and Australia enquire about postage costs. Amazing !!!!
I hope my 939 stuff sells that well in 3 years when i try and flog it !!

im certainly keeping my 939 rig for a while yet. My oppy 146 hasnt let me down once, happily running at 2.8. If anythng ill try and get a second hand 165 or maybe an X2, as they are at a great price at the moment!

second hand 165

Nice choice mate, im still really pleased with my opty 165. Im not upgradng til quad core comes out mainstream at least. I can play every game maxed out with mega high fps @ 1680 x 1050 res, so no need to upgrade yet. :D

Brocksta where you from in Southend? I live in Hadleigh, just down the road as you know and im always in and out of Southend clubbing/drinking/socialising etc.

M8, we sold a buggy on the bay, 2nd hand and wrecked for more than it costs in the shop, without P&P.

Some stuff worth £100 goes for £150, whilst the same stuff a different day can go for £50. I think people are more interested in winning the bid against someone than paying a fair price for a product.

my 4 gig athlon struggles multitasking badly, single cores are a bit poo nowadays. I intend to get a daul core amd chip when i see one dirt cheap

4 gig? And single cores are still the best for gaming.

I will probably get the Asus A8N-VM CSM to go with my no longer in use 7800GT and FX55 as my mobile/backup gaming rig/htpc.
Too good to sell. If only i could get a good small case for it.

Having recently put together a rig in March/April based on socket 939 I am more than pleased with its performance. Since it also has a good graphics card(3D Mark05 11,900). it should be ok for 18-24 months at least, well thats what im telling the wife :D

I'm also in the Socket 939 'ain't quite dead brigade'. I sold my Barton 3200 XP for £75 (went to Spain), 9600XT for £40 and NF-7 V2.0 for £26 at auction a month ago. The high end Socket-As are still in demand.

Decided to get a San Diego 4000 (cracking price), new Asus board and ATi 1900XT but carried my Corsair LL memory over. Then got another 1GB of secondhand Corsair LL for £65 recently. Great gaming rig and I haven't even overclocked it yet! should keep me going until middle of next year. I'll see how things are then and this current rig will replace my old 2nd system Northwood

i think the only thing i would hve done differently with my 939 rig is the mobo DFI lanparty nxt time defo

I'll be keeping my 939 setup for awhile...surely at least until DFI releases a nforce5 series LGA775 board and certainly until I can score a great deal on a e6600. Or maybe I'll wait til kentsfield...who knows.

my trusty 4400x2 is doing just fine and dandy for now.
