Ender's Game

Had a few hours to kill so decided to see this yesterday without checking reviews first. It is fairly true to the book although the entire plot seems to have been codensed down into the space of a couple of months. As a result everything feels rushed and as expected subtlety goes out the window which usually results in Graff or Rackham having to explain key points for the audience. Visually it is spot on with a couple of changes probably required to cut down on even more exposition. The Ender/Bonzo run in doesn't really work though with Ender towering over Bonzo almost comically. It left me wondering if it actually made any sense to people who hadn't read the book or whether it worked better without any prior knowledge of the story. All i can say is it could have been a lot worse.

If its not subtle it defeats the point. It was a decent book made brilliant by the twist.

The twist is incidental. IMNSHO the same plot told from Bean's PoV in Ender's Shadow works even better, despite the fact that both Bean and the audience know the twist. This is a book about how war destroys people, and how even children are not safe if it's expedient to involve them.

It's been getting good reviews. I'm surprised because the trailer was terrible - I thought they had really made a pigs ear out of it.

I watched this today, it was very good...close to the book in the ways that matter and given the limitations of the medium. I am a huge fan of the Ender novels and I wasn't disappointed, even though I expected it to be a mess...it wasn't.

Thanks Castiel - you've sold it for me :)

This is without doubt one of the best books I've ever read and I've eagerly been waiting the release of the movie while at the same time hoping to God they don't **** this up

I'm off Wed / Thur and a trip to the cinema is now booked.

Saw this today - thought it was quite dull - essentially Harry Potter in space - the kid actors are quite wooden compared to Ford and Kingsley.

Have to agree with your comments there, was very pleasantly surprised at how good it was and continued to be throughout.

i really enjoyed it, loved the ending!! i havent heard of the books

gf hated it, but she also hated alien, but loved aliens for the same reasons

This was 9pm on a staurday for a new film, 12 people in the cinema!

I was pleasantly surprised as well.

Only problem for me was the sub-par acting from the kids, I thought they were so inconsistent. Then I suppose it's to be expected, they are young, starting careers and it must be hard to find a large cast of kids of high quality.
