At 40p per kWh the payback is getting towards 5-6 years.
He is right though. People have gotten to soft. If your unwilling to give up a few unessecary things like heating at lighting on demand you probably wont survive when looters come for your food supplies
Best to invest into solar panel @£4,800
Gas:
Unit rate11.4p per kWh
Standing charge27.49p per day
Electricity:
Unit rate40.21p per kWh
Standing charge44.21p per day
Fingers crossed was the right choice, time will tell
Oh yeah most definitely It was a luxury to have running water in the Victorian times and to wash with clean warm water most had to make do with a wash bowl and jug and strip wash, even after the the 1st and 2nd world war most people only had a bath once a week.Don't forget washing once a month rather than daily.
Have you actually tried using candles as lighting, they are rubbish and expensive.
Last summer was highly unusual because of lockdowns and the sudden change of air pollution levels causing different weather, that is my theory anyway. In no way summers are intense here summers are very short. You should try spending a summer in Florida now that is intense. The UK is not as bright during the summer months. Sure we have had some heat waves but the lighting is very different compared to the southern states..I am guessing solar panels benefit east and south more, most summers is intense sun for weeks on end, last summer was highly unusual.
Do we really need electricity on 24/7? I think it would be more of a case of adapting the new changes. If the price of a candle is cheaper than having a light on for the night then candles could be the answer to lighting and you'd only need them for one room at a time. Food could be cooked outside on a camp fire or on your open fire place if you have one. You can make your own entertainment without electronic gadgets and hand wash your cloths. If its cold outside that be like your fridge. Or you could run the electricity for one or two hours per day for things like heating water and using your washing machine.
I've looked at photovoltaic solar panels myself but they just aren't economical unfortunately.
Maybe when they hit 50% efficiency they will be worth it for the North of England, but not currently!
Analysts are predicting that the war has pushed up wholesale prices, and could mean the average domestic bill in the UK hits £3,000 in October.
National Energy Action said that would put 8.5 million households in serious financial difficulty from fuel bills.
That would be twice the number of a year earlier, equating to 30% of homes.

I just can't believe you get 6 weeks of sunny dry hot weather every year in July and August.
Hey I left South Africa partially to get away from crap like this!Do we really need electricity on 24/7? I think it would be more of a case of adapting the new changes.
