Energy Suppliers

To be fair it's electricity, reviews don't really matter as far as i'm concerned.

It does when they take multiple payments, don't answer calls/emails which is what many of their negative reviews say. They were also in the news recently for threatening action against customers who had left negative reviews.

I emailed them two weeks ago because their website has virtually no information about the switching process for smart meters and never got a response, so not exactly a good first impression there either.

To be fair it's electricity, reviews don't really matter as far as i'm concerned. Those prices are crazy cheap though.

How wrong could you be. I was in hell with one cheap place where they messed up the switch so was still with the old supplier but they were taking payments, couldn't get in touch went on for months.
Eventually the old supplier did something and pulled me back, but it then took months again to get my money back which by then was over £300.
Never again will I swap to a company with less than average feedback.

Being able to get in touch with them is high on my priority list.

We use a lot of electricity, so my only criteria for an energy provider is for them to be the cheapest to be honest. The CS is dreadful even with the big ones such as SSE.
Funny you chose SSE the one of the big six with the worst CS of any company known to man, they also have a history of screwing up switches and customer accounts.

I didn't choose them as such, they are the only one of the big suppliers who i have used. They were the "default" company which i left ours with for years after we bought this house. They were pretty bad :p

Bulb putting up prices again and not by a small amount either. Time to switch.

8.2% increase, £2.95 per week extra for me they reckon, over £150 a year. They also keep jacking up the standing charge each time.

Its quite odd how every year electric prices keep increasing, gas mostly stays the same or even decreases.

At least that's what happened with my 2020 to 2021 plan switch.

And the government continues to hate the idea of putting solar panels on houses because they consider it too much of a privilege compared to opening a new nuclear or coal plant or some such (exaggeration on the new plant thing, but it makes the point).

Has to be the worst yet seeing as it was only raised in March. Standing charge going from 20.402p to 25.150 for me and the unit rising another 0.7p or thereabouts. to 19.656p.

Roll on the day when gas boilers are banned and everyone has an EV. Will cost more to charge a car at home than refuelling an old fashioned petrol car :D, probably

Hopefully you'll have people more aware of their energy use by then, and try and become somewhat energy independent. I'm nearly there, with ASHP, Solar, home battery, and BEV, might get a micro-wind turbine with should cover the basic house baseload ~130-200w depending on which computers are running.

However what is more likely is people while whinge and moan...

How much did all that cost to buy and install?

Great setup you have there. Was looking at ASHP's yesterday just out of interest. Solar and home battery would be do-able for me too but not something looking into atm but definitely in the future.
For now will look at changing suppliers. Would like to switch to an tariff supporting cheaper EV charging but I'm just not using mine frequently enough atm to need to charge it often but need to look at the tariffs on offer

Lots! It's also still ongoing.

Solar plus battery is a great combo now, and the payback time is pretty quick these days, with panels becoming so much cheaper, and smart batteries that allow you to make profit from time of use tariffs.

The price increases are pretty large across the board, does anyone know what's driving the increases?

Th email from bulb explains it.

Unfortunately, the wholesale cost of energy has continued to rise dramatically since we last decided to change our prices in March. It's up by 29% since then and is double what it cost this time last year.

I couldnt find much cheaper anyway than Bulb, but the big ones are offering almost £200 cashback on 1 year dual fuel fixes which will offset the extra cost.

This is how much my E on next costs, both unit price and standing charge pictured, and theres also no early exit fee:

There wasn't any cashback on this switch though, it was just the cheapest dual tariff and no exit fees was tempting enough to switch right away.
