Energy Suppliers

Can someone take a look at my maths to make sure I've worked this out correctly, as I'm trying to work out potential costs for December when I move to the standard variable tariff on British Gas at the end of November.

Variable, Gas left and Electric right:

Unit Charge: 4.047p & 20.592p
Standing Charge: 26.123p & 25.093p

I've looked at my usages for December 2019 and 2020 while I was on fixed deals and have the following:

December 2019
Gas: 875kWh/£29.75
Electric: 212kWh/£36.16

December 2020
Gas: 959kWh/£30.27
Electric: 266kWh/£46.88

I have based December 2021 potential cost against 2020 usage as it's the higher one and get the following, Gas is left price and Electric on the right:

Unit Charge: £38.81 & £54.77
Standing Charge: £8.10 & £7.78
Totals: £46.91 & £62.55
Combined: £109.46

Does anyone know what will happen when my 12m tracker with octopus ends? Do they have to put me on the default tariff which is the ofgem price capped variable rate? I want it to go on the variable as my 12 month wholesale rate is worse than the capped rate but it seems there support are trying everything possible to stop me doing that.

saw someone post this online

Sanaxe1 - this should happen

Another one gone this evening. Goto Energy 22,000 customers

93 energy suppliers existed in January and so far 16 have gone under this year (17.02%). Looking as Gas per Therm futures pricing there arent any drops in the prices until april next year and im well expecting the price to shoot up if we get a mediocre of cold winter.

Same and several family members. Will have to work out who is the best to switch to after being moved to the imposed one.

I've just been notified that I've been moved to Shell Energy, shouldn't think I'll see much change as I was on SVR anyway so at the price cap.

Same, I was Pure Planet and now been moved to Shell Energy. Family members with PP have been informed the same is happening to them also.

Yup, Pure Planet to Shell for me too.

Between the energy price increases and all the talk of air source heat pumps recently it has got me thinking about how we would go about installing one. With the amount of electricity the house would be using seems like it would be a good idea to get solar panels with a battery system (estimates of around £7-8k).
I do wonder though if an electricity supply is required with a battery set as a back up? Especially in the winter months with less light and a higher demand for hot water.

In winter you'll struggle to fully charge the battery from solar especially if you're pulling power from the ASHP.

ASHP isn't the answer to the energy crisis, especially if your house isn't sufficiently insulated, you'll need an up to date EPC done as well.

I'm just going to do the only thing that actually will save money. Get a log burner fitted, local park has always got free logs available.
Before they ban then completely as I can definitely see that happening eventually.

Check you're not in a smoke control area.
