***** Enermax Celebration - Big Giveaway ***** WINNERS ANNOUNCED POST 198!

That's an interesting choice of image host you've chosen there. Some "curious" pics appear when you look at the image URL's directly ;)

Was there something naughty? I used this site for ages without problems. Just clicked my photos, did not see anything bad.

I wasn't being sarcastic, shayper read it right.

Edit. Nice little review Borsch.

Ha, ok :)

And thanks :)

Review continues!

Armed with knowledge about splitting 8 pin plug into 2 sets of four (thanks Uncle Petey!) and also deciding to reuse the silicon insulation from my old TT PSU, I decided to give it another go.

Triathlor's 4 pin motherboard cable is shorter than the TT one and can not be routed behind the motherboard. It's not too bad though, I've routed it down the back wall and the ceiling of the case (no it does not go in front of the fan like it seems in the pic, thats an illusion).

I stand by my comment that the connectors are not as high quality on the Enermax, it takes a lot more force to jam them in/pull out than the TT ones (which were still very secure).

But, on the positive note, Enermax cables are very flat, which means I can position them so that they do not interefere with airflow. TT cables were fat and round.

I'm typing from the PC with Triathlor powering it right this moment.

And now I am hearing another problem - the PSU has a loud ticking noise that is constant. I'm pretty sure I'll have to swap it as, contrary to its box sticker, it's anything but silent at the moment. Unless it needs to run in its bearings or something... I'll record a video this evening :(

I see these PSUs are using all japanese capacitors. A boon for reliability. I wouldn't buy one without.

Yep, having thought about it, that is the reason I'd like to keep it :)

No probs mate :)

Good review and sorry to hear about the ticking thing... Sucks :(

Ps, some very er, interesting pics on that hosting site ;) May want to use a different one on here :)
Then again, I haven't seen anything that's any more 'offensive' than the stuff in Gibbo's Chrimbo babe thread.

OOPS! Just loaded my pics with firefox which doesnt have adblock installed and yeah -WOW :D.

Right reuploading to photobucket (dont like it, but oh well I dont want to get banned for this nonsense :)

EDIT: pics are now on a more family friendly site, even without adblock - postimage.org (few people from picture threads use it)

Yeah the ticking is pretty bad- its not even clock-like ticking, more like a cricket "chirping". A very annoying cricket that start to almost shriek when PSU is under heavy load (like during a game).

The worst thing that changing PSUs is not like changing a gfx card - it takes ages to fit the cables etc ... :(

Here's the recording of the noise (I shot it on a phone, so mic's not very sensitive - turn up the volume to hear it). Of course in real life it's loud and clear -I can hear the chirping from across the room).

How should I go about replacing it? Ace Modder? (by this time I'm sure OCUK regrets having even started this blasted competition - sorry guys! Enermax, I m sure , were also after a different kind of "exposure":o:) )

How are the PSUs for the rest of the comp winners?

Right, lets finish this thread/comp with a "Hollywood Ending" :)

OCUK have replaced the clicking PSU without even slightest resistance on their part. I've received a brand new and sealed Triathlor today (DPD next day, Haribos - the works, and all for free :) How do they do it, the best customer service I ever came across!).

I've installed it today and ....(drum roll)... it is SILENT!!! Ok, not completely silent but its very noticeably quieter than my Thermaltake that it replaced (and that thing was quiet! Despite the fact that it had a 14cm fan and Enermax runs a 12cm). Very impressed :)

This and the fact that this PSU uses lovely Japanese capacitors (as well as my want to keep the memento) mean that Triathlor is a keeper!

Thanks Enermax and OCUK!! :)
