Enermax Galaxy 1000W Problem

I've just bought an Enermax Galaxy 1000W and have a problem in that my system refuses to boot up.

The diagnostic LED is orange when in stand-by and turns green when I switch the system on, no beeps or flashing etc from the internal alarm or LED. The power supply seems to power up ok, the fan spins etc.

Everything else in the system powers on e.g. fans, hard drives, dvd drives etc but the system does not. The standby LED on the motherboard lights up to indicate power (it's an Asus A8R32MVP) but it still doesn't power on. Incidentally I have Corsair TwinX Pro RAM with the LEDs on the top which always come on about 2 or 3 seconds before the system starts to POST but even the LEDs on the RAM fail to light up when I try to power on.

I've tried another power supply by simply connecting the motherboard 24-pin ATX header and the CPU 4-pin 12V plug and all is ok. I tried the same with the Enermax but nothing.

Can anyone shed any light on this as I don't really want to RMA it as it weighs an absolute ton!!

Have you connected the little fan thingy from the PSU to your board?

Have you tried clearing your CMOS?

Try swapping the PSU power plug around (I believe that there are two, although I'm not sure if they both do the same thing).

Try re-inserting the 24 pin plug a few times.

I've tried resetting the CMOS but this didn't do anything to help.

I haven't connected the little fan plug because there is nowhere on my mobo to plug it in. All the fan ports are effectively power supplies for a case or cpu fan and I believe it is just a fan sensor plug, not a power plug? (Please correct me if I'm wrong here!)

Tried re-inserting the 24 pin plug more times than I care to count but this didn't do anything.

The 4-pin CPU plug... yes there are two and I tried both of them but to no avail. There is also an 8-pin power plug which I even tried sandwiching that into the 4-pin socket but none of this helped.

Thanks for the suggestions so far, I'll try them all again when I get home this evening. Any more would be greatly appreciated as I spent 2 hours trying to get the damn thing to work last night!

Yes those ports power fans but they can also monitor the RPM of fans that have the IC's to do it. So plug the 3pin header into one.

I doubt this would make a difference though, as the only thing which stops a motherboard from booting fan sensor wise is if there is no RPM reading for the CPU fan (not all boards though).

I was thinking the PSU may do something odd as it can't detect any fans. I have the 850 version but tbh I can't be bothered going into my case to take it out and check :p

Thanks for clearing that up, I'll try that when I get home.

I'll let you know how I get on!

I have heard that the PSU won't power up though if there's less than 50W output but I would have thought that just by connecting the graphics card alone that would be above 50W surely!

I'm at the end of my tether with this now, going to RMA it.

I tried everything suggested but none of it worked. The daft thing is the system actually fired up once but then after it was turned off again it wouldn't turn back on.

Convinced it's the PSU as my old Hiper Type-R 580W works every single time I switch the system on.

Thanks for all the contributions!
