Engagement rings...

Oh well. I just know what I'd do to mine if he said such a thing publicly!

/me drifts off into a daydream...

It's a good thing I'm drifting into that sort of mental state myself or I'd be sticking two fingers down my throat and making gagging noises :p As it stands I'm actually just grinning madly!

lol, it's just sad we live so far apart :( Fini's a great guy, and makes me :D (both innocently and otherwise:) all the time... yes, yes, you can go gag now. lol.

Whats my religion got to do with it?

What, exactly, is the difference bewteen a ring and anything else you buy the other half though? I tend to buy the best I can afford. Should I not buy her anything or stick to the cheapest tat in case we split up?

The price of the ring does not equal the amount of love.
If the woman loves you she will do what my wife did back in 1980.
She had a £22 wedding ring + £300 wedding and I had a £600 Tascam Portastudio.
Now thats ***.

Good luck with this Neil, she's a lovely lady and deserves a nice ring with all the grief you give her!

If you're around tonight, we'll have a chat and I'll put some recommendations through! :)

Just bear in mind that whatever metal (and purity) the engagement ring is then the wedding ring has to be the same.

The reason for this is that if you have say an 18ct gold wedding ring and a 9ct gold engagement ring, then 9ct gold - being a harder alloy than 18ct gold (which has more actual gold in it and is therefore softer) can eventually cause wear and scratching to the 18ct ring. If they're both the same alloy, then they should not wear.

Who makes up crap like "You should spend X months wages on an engagement ring" anyway? Never heard such utter bobbins in my whole life.

The cost of the ring should not matter, it is the meaning behind it. Same goes for £20,000 weddings all for the sake of what? It's supposed to be about loving someone and wanting to spend the rest of your life with them, not a ******* contest.

Quite right. And this is from someone who owns a jewellery business (and is obviously a crap salesman :D) :)

Come back and tell us how it went wont you!
:)

well....it's been 2 weeks and i done the deed last night(24th).
the company who i got the car from with a driver upgraded us and he turned up in a 08 jag which was top of the range.

the evening went really well and i didnt ask her until the end of the show.
during the show i went for to get a few drinks and got talking to one of the directors outside the show and asked how the show had done over the last 5 weeks and he said very well.
i mentioned what i planned to do at the end of the show and he was very very happy i was doing it at one of his shows.
i asked the g/f at the end of the show and she said YES YES YES !
which was a relief for me(lol).i bumped into this director on the way out and asked the outcome and the g/f said yes.
he asked if we wanted to meet romeo and juliet and have some pictures taken and we went along and said that would be lovely.
the pictures turned out to be the local press and im sure we will be featured in the local paper soon.....much to our surprise !

so....a £69 and a nice picnic and a pretty exspensive car made the perfect evening and one we will never forget.

ill get the pictures of my camera and post some up soon.

some pictures as promised.

it was the marketing department for some ring/diamond company that came up with the couple of months wages thing, very clever idea i must say. us poor blokes need some help in deciding what to buy and this must seem like as good as anything.

I did the deed last month, she said yes which was good. Ring cost slightly more than I had originally planned but was worth it, she's gonna have it until the end of our days so what's a couple of grand? Spent more than that on gfx cards over the years :)

Was always about getting what was right not what it cost, I wanted something that looked superb quality and fitted my missus exacting standards. Not a massive carrat as she has tiny fingers anyway but got the best clarity, colour and is internally flawless and on a platinum band, looks the don!
